The Hills is an American reality television series created by Liz Gateley as a spin-off to Laguna Beach which documents the lives of Lauren Conrad and her friends in Los Angeles after Conrad's move from Laguna Beach, California.
The series aired in the USA on MTV from 31 May, 2006 to 13 July, 2010. There are 102 half-hour episodes in six seasons.
The series originally aired in South Africa on DStv's MTV and MTVbase channels. It later aired on SABC3. See "Season" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Season 2 premiered on SABC3 on Friday 15 April 2011, at 21h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 12 episodes in the second season.
Season 1
It's one thing to be young and beautiful in Laguna Beach. It's another to be young and beautiful in the city that values it most.
The Hills follows Lauren Conrad ("LC" from Laguna Beach) as she makes the move from her O.C. digs to Los Angeles, where she will chase her dreams of entering the fashion business while balancing a full course load at college and a full social calendar.
Through Lauren we meet her new roommate who aspires to make the LA nightlife her whole life, the sorority girl who aspires to work in fashion and a receptionist who wants to be a model/actress.
These four girls take full advantage of being in the "in" crowd of LA, hopping from club, to party, to hot restaurant as they live the Hollywood lifestyle.
But will Lauren be able to handle it all when there are so many things pulling her in so many directions?
Season 2
With a year in Los Angeles under their belts, Lauren Conrad and her friends Heidi, Audrina and Whitney are learning that being young women in the big city isn't as easy as they thought.
The girls are older, wiser and now single, facing new challenges at work and school.
But this year when new boys force them to make tough choices, Lauren and the girls are about to find out that not even friendships can be taken for granted.
Season 3
The girls of The Hills are back for another season, but this time it's a whole different story.
Whitney has graduated college and is dealing with the stress of her first real job and the drama of being newly single.
Audrina is trying to handle her first real boyfriend ever but hitting the town every night with her single roommate Lauren won't make it easy.
Heidi's trying to play house with Spencer and deal with the separation from her best friend Lauren, but when Spencer wants to take their relationship to the next level, who can Heidi turn to for advice?
Lauren's had enough of being single and is looking for Mr. Right, but with new responsibilities at Teen Vogue, a new roommate, and a boyfriend from her past back in her life, how will she ever find him?
Lauren and Heidi haven't spoken at all since Heidi moved in with Spencer. Is Hollywood big enough for one group of close friends who have been torn in two?
And when this feud comes to a head, how will Lauren hold it all together?
Season 4
The Hills is back for season 4, and the girls are beginning to make some big decisions that will set the course for the rest of their lives.
While Lauren struggles to balance the tension between her roommates, Audrina and Lo, she starts dating Doug, an old flame from Laguna Beach.
Meanwhile, Brody, Audrina and just about everyone else warn Lauren not to trust her new friend, Stephanie Pratt (Spencer's sister). And when Lauren makes a surprising discovery about Stephanie and Doug, she realises that her friends might be right.
Just as Audrina thinks it's time to let her boyfriend Justin go and begins dating Colin, Justin turns up the heat in their relationship, leaving her torn.
Whitney rises up the ranks at People's Revolution much faster than she expected and meets a model in New York who could possibly sweep her off her feet.
And Heidi deals with the consequences of moving back in with Spencer, including putting her job at risk.
As if that wasn't enough, Heidi's sister Holly comes from Colorado for an indefinite visit, putting some serious pressure on her renewed relationship with Spencer.
During season 4 of The Hills, life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before.
