Bio
Mmatema Moremi is a South African singer, songwriter and actress who rose to fame in 2015 as the runner-up on the eleventh season of the Mzansi Magic reality competition series Idols.
Mmatema was raised in Zebeidelia, Limpopo and began singing at the pre-school assembly during Morning Prayer sessions. By the time she attended Matladi Secondary School she started experimenting with backtracks, doing her own versions of her favourite artists' songs.
Whilst she was studying for her B-Tech degree in Applied Languages/Linguistics at T.U.T (Tshwane University of Technology) she joined Reflex Raise choir, before joining the Tshwane Gospel Choir.
Mmatema auditioned for the ninth season of Idols but was rejected in the first round. She auditioned for the second time on the 10th season and made it to the group stages. She auditioned for the third time on Season 11 and wowed the judges with her solo performance during theatre week with her rendition of Demi Lovato's Skyscraper.
On 22 November, 2015, Mmatema lost out of the ultimate prize of being named South African Idol. Even though she didn't win the competition she signed her first recording contract with Universal Music South Africa. She later parted ways with Universal to pursue a career in gospel music through her company Mmatema Moremi Media Productions (Pty) Ltd.
On 28 February, 2017 she was the featured client on the fourth episode of the SABC1 reality series Raw Silk. One day later she made her professional acting debut as Thembi, a musician turned teacher who is married to a struggling musician, in the SABC2 drama series Bone of My Bones.
