Sean Astin is an American actor, director, voice artist and producer best known for his film roles as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as Mikey Walsh in The Goonies and as the title character in Rudy.
Astin made his feature-film debut as Mickey Walsh in the 1985 film Goonies. He went on to feature in several motion pictures, including Boy Meets Girl, War of the Roses, Toy Soldiers, Memphis Belle, Bulworth, Courage Under Fire, Rudy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Click.
Astin's television credits include roles in Jeremiah, 24 (Season 5), the TNT series Bull and the Showtime movie Harrison Bergeron.
Astin broadened his career by directing and co-producing the 1994 short film Kangaroo Court, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film. He also directed the short film, The Long and the Short of It which premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.
He also had a starring role as Jim Kent, a CDC administrator who works with Eph Goodweather and Nora Martinez, in the FX horror series The Strain, in 2014.
