Paula Abdul's rise to fame started in the '80's when she became a cheer leader and later head choreographer for the LA Lakers dance troupe, Laker girls (earning about $50 per game).
She Choregraphed a Jacksons/Mick Jagger video for their single "Torture"
She then went on to choregraph for Janet Jackson for When i Think of You, Nasty and What Have you done for me lately.
In June of 1988 Virgin released her debut Album Forever Your Girl
Her first 2 singles from that album, Knocked Out and The Way You Love Me peaked at numbers 41 and 88 respectively, on the Hot 100 charts.
A third single, Straight Up, was released in February of 1989 and became paula Abdul's first number one Hit.
The track Forever Your Girl was released next anf was also a number 1 hit.
Her thrid number 1 was the single Cold Hearted from the same album
The next single released from the album, The Way That You Love, peaked at number 3
Her 4th number 1 of the album was Opposites Attract - which was released in February of 1990.
