Bio
Mel B (real name Melanie Brown) is an English pop singer and songwriter turned actress and television personality best known as one of the members of the girl group the Spice Girls, one of the most successful female groups of all time.
She was given the nickname "Scary Spice" by the British media because of her outrageous, "in-your-face" attitude, 'loud' Leeds accent, throaty laugh, manner of dress (which often consisted of leopard-print outfits), and her voluminously curly hair.
Mel B joined the Style Network for the docu-comedy series Mel B: It's a Scary World, in September 2010. She also appeared as host of the second season of Dance Your Ass Off and released her Get Fit with Mel B videogame later in the same year.
From her days growing up in Leeds, England, through her years in one of the most defining pop groups of the last few decades, and through such adventures as becoming a fan favourite on Dancing With the Stars, Mel B is always striving to do something better and different.
As the volcanic personality and red-hot presence driving Peep Show at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Mel B partnered with an award-winning creative team for a wild journey of sexual awakening told through fables and fantasy with an all-female cast of dancers, singers and rock musicians.
Mel B's brash Scary Spice persona was integral to the Spice Girl's global success. The group racked up record sales of $55-million and two Guinness Book World Records, and its enduring popularity brought about one of the most successful concert tours of 2007-08.
This worldwide acclaim has served Mel B well in a wide variety of ventures. On Broadway, she has starred as Mimi in Rent and appeared in a presentation of The Vagina Monologues.
On the small screen, she hosted the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant and has appeared as a special correspondent for Access Hollywood.
Her Totally Fit DVD hit stores in early 2009 and was met with overwhelming success. Known for her incredible physique, Mel B is also the spokesperson and face for Ultimo Lingerie, the biggest lingerie line in the UK.
Mel B has also used her prominence to benefit various charities and humanitarian causes. She helped to raise $250,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation's "Pose for the Cure" breast cancer campaign and has also worked with Will.I.Am in leading a fight against world poverty with Oxfam's "In My Name" effort.
Along the way, she wrote the bestselling autobiography Catch a Fire and starred in the wildly popular British soap Burn It.
Mel B's career has been based on inspiring people to leave behind their inhibitions and tackle anything that comes their way. She says, "It's all about feeling confident, listening to yourself, trusting yourself and being in your own power. And that's what I'm all about."
She currently resides in Los Angeles.
