Bio
Shoki Mokgapa was a South African actress best known for her role as Disebo on the e.tv soapie Ashes to Ashes.
She made her television debut in the second season of the SABC3 drama series The Lab in 2008, playing the role of Pearl Lusipho's personal assistant Tumi. She continued to play the role in Season 3, from January to April, 2009.
Shoki had roles on numerous other television series including the BBC drama Silent Witness, the ITV drama Wild at Heart; and local shows like Ashes to Ashes, Intersexions, Those Who Can't, Swartwater, Sokhulu & Partners and The Docket.
She joined the cast of the e.tv soapie Ashes to Ashes in June 2016. In the show, her character Disebo joins Namane Funerals as a temporary funeral planner after running away from her home in the Free State. She left her family after being forced into an arranged marriage and fled to Joburg, where she changed her identity before landing her job with the Namanes.
In 2017 she won the South African Film and Television (SAFTA) award for Best Actress in a Feature Film for her role in the feature film Sink, the story of a Mozambican domestic worker who loses her child under the care of her employers. She played the lead role of Rachel, alongside Anel Alexander and Jacques Bessenger.
Shoki ended her own life on Tuesday 25 September, 2018. She was 34.
