Vanity Fair is a 2004 movie adaptation of the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, directed by Mira Nair.
It's 1848 and Becky Sharp, coming from nothing, is determined to stake her place at the top of high society.
The problem is that being on the bottom rung and being a woman she has three choices - she could become a governess or teacher, someone's wife or a prostitute.
But Becky wants more and uses her charms and assets to get there, seducing her way to the top. Unfortunately her carefully laid plans don't include falling in love, which stands between her and her ambition.
Becky goes to work as the governess in the home of Sir Pitt Crawley. Once there she's quick to get her feet under the table and has Rawdon Crawley at her mercy. She falls for him too with dreams of an escalating bank balance.
But Rawdon won't get his hands on the family fortunes because of a secret obsession.
