Peter

Peter wakes up to find himself tied up in the back room of a pub. Ricky, the leader of the men who found him in the container asks Peter what he did with the iPods that were supposed to be there.

I don't think Ricky has thought through things that clearly. You won't find many thieves around the world who would steal something and then handcuff themselves in the place where the items used to be.

So there's very little chance that Peter was the one who took the iPods and even if he was involved in some way, given that the container was locked from the outside, it's extremely unlikely he knows where the iPods are. When Peter repeats that he doesn't know who he is or how he got there, Ricky motions for one of his men to administer some physical punishment to Peter.

Some time later Caitlin, Ricky's sister, comes in to clean Peter up. As she wipes the blood off his face, she says that she's trying a different approach to get the information out of Peter. She tells him that Ricky did the job for a man named McSorely and that they promised delivery that day.

Peter tells her that the first he remembers is one of Ricky's men coming at him and then an electrical spark which he things came from his hand. Caitlin stops wiping his face at that moment, and says that although she's wiped a lot of blood off Peter's face, there's no mark on it.

That evening, Ricky and his men leave the pub to go somewhere, and he tells her to keep an eye on Peter. Caitlin starts to clean up the pub, while in the back room Peter struggles with the ropes around his wrist.

The ropes are securely tied and he doesn't have much success until his hands suddenly phase through the ropes. So I guess we can add DL's power to the ones that Peter has absorbed. He picks up a shirt that's lying nearby and puts it on, marking the first time in two episode that he's wearing something around his torso.

While Peter looks for a way out of the back room, two men enter the pub. Caitlin tells them that Ricky has just left, but they reply that they're there for her and they grab hold of her. One of them is holding a crowbar, so he's clearly not just going to ask for her phone number.

At that point Peter enters the room. He diables one of the men by sending a burst of electricity at him, uses telekinesis to disarm the other man and then super-strength to knock him out.

Ricky is not very pleased with Peter's actions, as one of the men was McSorely's son, which means that the situation has now escalated into a blood feud. He tells Peter that in order to make things right, Peter needs to help them on a job.

Peter refuses, saying he's not a thief, but Ricky takes a box out of he bag. He tells Peter that the box contains everything that was on him when they found him in the container, which includes something that revealed what Peter's name was, as Ricky addresses him as “Peter”. He tells Peter that he can have the box as long as he helps them, otherwise he'll destroy it.

Matt and Angela

Matt's first case as a detective is to investigate Kaito's death. At the crime scene, his partner shows him the photo of Kaito with the symbol drawn over it. He tells Matt that they found Angela's fingerprint on it and Matt says, perhaps a little too eagerly. that they need to bring her in.

In the interview, Angela denies any involvement in Kaito's death. When asked what the symbol drawn over Kaito's face is, she replies that it's the logo of her husband's law firm.

Matt asks why it would have been drawn across his face, and she answers that she doesn't know. However, Matt “hears” her thoughts saying that it's because they did something terrible, and someone now wants revenge.

Matt tries to ask her about the possibility of revenge, but she asks for a lawyer. When Matt tries to listen to her thoughts a bit more, she shouts telepathically that he must get out of her head.

Matt leaves Angela in the interview room and goes to talk to Nathan, who is signing some forms. Just then, the lights flash and go out, and Angela starts screaming.

Matt tries the door of the interview room, but discovers that it's locked. Meanwhile, inside the room, something is attacking Angela.

Matt goes into the observation room and uses a chair to break through the glass separating the two rooms. Angela is alone in the room, but she's holding the photo of herself with the symbol drawn over her face.

Hiro

Hiro goes looking for Kensei and finds him passed out against a tree, drunk. Hiro tries to sober Kensei up by dunking him in a trough of water, but his efforts are in vain.

Hiro sees Kensei's armour nearby and decides that if history needs Takezo Kensei to be a hero that day, then he'll be Kensei for the day, and he rides off dressed in Kensei's armour. It appears to fit without any problem, so it's a fortunate thing that Kensei and Hiro are the same size, even if they don't look it.

He comes across Yaeko, who is fighting a group of samurai. He tells them to step away from her, because Takezo Kensei demands it.

When the leader, White Beard, asks why he thinks they'll listen, Hiro says that it's because Takezo Kensei is the greatest swordsman in Japan. One of the samurai wonders out loud why “Kensei” keeps referring to himself in the third person.

White Beard asks how Kensei is going to do anything without a sword, and Hiro replies that he has all of theirs. The next moment, the samurai have all lost their swords, which are now stuck in the ground next to Hiro.

White Beard tells his men to use their bows, and Hiro disarms them in a similar manner. Yaeko is impressed, although I would have thought that a more natural response would be to be a little freaked out by what just happened. The samurai run away, and Hiro rides over to Yaeko and pulls her up onto his horse.

The two of them ride for a while before stopping near some cherry blossom trees. The two of them dismount and talk for a while.

Yaeko apologises for thinking that Kensei had left with their money, and Hiro promises her that her father will be rescued. Yaeko asks Hiro to take off his mask, but Hiro is naturally reluctant to do so. Yaeko closes her eyes, and Hiro uses the opportunity to freeze time, take off his mask, and teleport away.

Hiro finds Kensei and returns his armour to him. Kensei is annoyed at Hiro taking it, but that chances when Yaeko arrives, delighted with what “Kensei” had done earlier. She returns Kensei's sword to him and then tells him to meet her in the stables so that they can go and rescue her father.

Kensei tells Hiro that it appears as though listening to him will grant him more reward and more of Yaeko, so he's prepared to do what Hiro says. Kensei walks out of the building carrying his armour, only to find White Beard and his men. Three of them fire their bows at Kensei at hit him, before they leave.

Hiro runs over to Kensei, who is now lying on the ground in pain, as you generally would be after being hit by three arrows. Or at least I assume you would be, as that's one experience I've never had, and I hope I never do.

Hiro pulls one arrow out in a vain attempt to do something, but Kensei closes his eyes and stops breathing. It's not over though, as the wound from the arrow which Hiro pulled out starts to heal, and Kensei comes back to life. So it would seem that Kensei has the same power as Claire.

Mohinder

Mohinder enters Bob's office to be told that a man has turned up sick in Port-Au-Prince, showing signs of the virus. Mohinder's first assignment for the company is to investigate this case.

As Port-Au-Prince is the capital of Haiti, it's not that surprising that the sick person is our favourite power-suppressing, memory-wiping Haitian. The Haitian initially refuses treatment, saying that it is God's punishment for abusing his gift. Mohinder says that he can only cure the Haitian if he has the virus that Mohinder has the cure for and not some other disease, so maybe God is offering redemption to the Haitian.

Mohinder does indeed have the cure for the Haitian's virus. He mentions that he works for a company who would want him to bring the Haitian in for observation, and the Haitian replies that there's always a company.

The next thing Mohinder is aware of is Bob asking him where the Haitian is. Mohinder has no idea what Bob is talking about, as the last thing he remembers is being given his assignment in Bob's office. Bob tells him that he must have been able to cure the Haitian, otherwise Mohinder's memory couldn't have been wiped.

Bob says that they'll put this down as a rookie mistake, but I would say that the mistake is on the part of Bob. Mohinder is the only person able to cure the virus, but the Company lets him travel alone, which doesn't make much sense.

It makes even less sense considering that they were sending him to treat someone with the ability to wipe memories and who has acted in opposition to the Company in the past. So I think all
the blame should be put on Bob here.

Maya and Alejandro

Maya and Alejandro arrive at the home of Nidia, a woman who knew them as children. She comments that on the day they were born, Maya appeared first and Alejandro followed, and the same is still happening now. Nidia agrees to help them cross the border from Guatemala into Mexico.

Maya sleeps for a while, and when she wakes up, more people have arrived. One of them claims to be a healer, and when Alejandro says that Maya isn't well, she offers to take a look at her.

The healer holds Maya's hands and closes her eyes, but then gasps and opens them. She says that Maya is cursed and carries something black inside her that no one can heal.

That evening, Nidia leads Maya and Alejandro to a large drainpipe which leads under a river which marks the border between Guatemala and Mexico. Nidia and Maya enter the drainpipe, but Alejandro is forced to hide nearby when some police officers arrive.

Nidia and Maya make it through the drainpipe, but Maya insists that they wait for Alejandro, visibly upset about leaving him behind. Her tears turn into blood, as she starts bleeding from her eyes. Maya tells Nidia to run, but she collapses before she can get away.

Alejandro arrives and tries to calm Maya down. He takes hold of her hands, and the blood tears begin to fade from her face, appearing briefly on Alejandro's face before disappearing altogether.

Nidia gets up and says that the healer was right when she said Maya was cursed. She heads back through the drainpipe, refusing to have anything further to do with the twins.

To sum it up, it appears that Maya's power is the ability to make people bleed from their eyes, causing great pain and killing them if it goes on for too long. Alejandro's power complements hers in that she can start the process, while he is the one who is able to end it.

The Bennets

Sandra is cooking eggs in pot of boiling water and her wedding ring falls in. Claire, who is nearby, reaches into the pot and retrieves it.

Her hand is blistered, as you would expect from being immersed in boiling water, but it heals. Sandra comments that there was no need for that as they do have a colander.

Claire complains that it's bad enough hiding who she is at school, and now it appears she has to do it at home as well. What neither of them comment on is the need for Sandra to do something about her ring, as she presumably wouldn't want it slipping off her finger on a regular basis.

HRG says that all they're asking Claire to do is keep a low profile. Claire says that it might be easy for HRG to pretend to be a boring photocopier, but she's not able to not be what she really is.

HRG replies by saying that making copies is not his job. Rather, his job is keeping his family safe, and he will do whatever is necessary to achieve that, even if it includes putting on a stupid shirt.

He asks Claire to do the same, and presumably he means that she must do whatever it takes and not that she must wear a stupid shirt. Claire agrees to this and heads off to school in her product placed car.

Sandra picks up the newspaper and asks HRG if he had seen the article about the death of Kaito Nakamura. HRG says that he knew that was going to happen, and Sandra asks him how he knew, saying that they don't keep secrets any more.

HRG shows Sandra a painting of Kaito lying dead of the ground, which matches the photo printed in the paper. The image is that of Kaito lying in a pool of blood, and I have to wonder if a newspaper would actually go ahead and publish a photo that graphic.

HRG tells Sandra that this is a painting by Isaac Mendez, and everything he ever painted has come true. That is, except for the painting of New York in flames, which appears to have conveniently been forgotten.

What's also convenient is that Isaac painted a series of eight paintings before his death, so that plot device can still be used. This painting is the first of the series and the only one that HRG has, but he says that he is going to find the others.

In science class, Claire's teacher shows the class some images a newt regrowing a limb. He mentions that lizards are also capable of cellular regeneration, and as the episode's title is “Lizards”, it's safe to assume that this is an important plot point.

Claire asks if it would ever be possible for people to do a similar sort of thing. She asks a few more questions that lead up to her asking about people who have already evolved new DNA (i.e. like her), and the teacher says that those answers would require an advanced degree in genetics. By this time the entire class, including West, is staring at her, so Claire's attempts at not being noticed have failed yet again.

After school, West confronts Claire and tells her that he found a book she might be interested in as it features a chapter on regeneration. Naturally, the book is Chandra's book, which appears to be required reading for every major character on the show.

Claire tries to brush him off, saying that she was just bored in class. Their conversation definitely comes to an end when Claire discovers that her car is missing.

She breaks the bad news to HRG at the copy shop. He initially fears that she had come to tell him something to do with her ability, so he's a little relieved that it was just a stolen car, but he's still disappointed, particularly when Claire tells him that she left it unlocked.

Claire tells him that if he were to get her another car, she would take better care of it. I really have to wonder about Claire. She's shown that she has difficulty grasping the concept of not being noticed, and now she picks the worst possible moment to ask for a new car. If she represents the next stage in human evolution, then we could be in for some trouble.

Their discussion turns to Claire's ability, and she complains that she doesn't know how it works or what her limits are. She wonders what would happen if she were to cut off her arm. Would it reattach, or would she grow a new one?

She also wonders whether her blood could be used to help someone who's sick. That idea at least is a little easier to test than cutting her arm off.

That evening in the copy shop, HRG phones Mohinder, who has returned from his trip to Haiti. Mohinder tells HRG that everything went smoothly, and he didn't appear to arouse any suspicions. He says that the Company will be watching him more closely from now on, and HRG tells him not to worry, as he'll find the paintings himself.

HRG hangs up and turns to help a customer. That customer turns out to be the Haitian, and the two of them shake hands.

At the Bennets' home, Claire sits in the living room while painting her nails. Mr Muggles is there as well, watching a dog show which is on TV.

Sandra walks in and tells Claire to turn it off, as it's upsetting Mr Muggles. Claire does so, but Mr Muggles growls at her, so she turns it back on.

Claire picks up a book which was next to her, which has some pictures of lizards. She looks at the pictures and then looks at her toes.

She picks up some nearby scissors and uses them to cut her little toe off. Once again, I can't speak from experience, but is it really possible to cut your toe off with a pair of scissors? Granted, Claire has small feet and therefore small toes, and scissors may have been extremely sharp, but to cut a toe off you have to get through a bone which would take a lot more force that I would have thought Claire would be able to exert.

Anyway, she does manage to cut all the way through, and the toe flies off. We never see Claire retrieve it, so I suspect that Mr Muggles took it for a midnight snack.

Nothing happens for a while, but then the toe grows back. Mr Muggles barks at the window, and Claire looks up to see West watching her through it.

She runs outside, but there's no sign of West, but lying in the driveway is a copy of Chandra's book. Meanwhile, Mr Muggles proves that he's the only one who really knows what's going on by barking at the sky and jumping in the air.

I still do not understand the twins' power.  Who healed kensei, was it Hero?  Nathan looks cute nowadays, is he in disguise?

Shit! *bleep!*! *bleep!*!!! This is the one thing i would have loved to see. The expression on Claire's face especially. Damn!

Thank you Cit for an awesome recap....i feel like i was watching Heroes from just reading this!

>>I still do not understand the twins' power.<<

From what we've seen, it appears as though Maya can make people bleed from their eyes in some way.  If that carries on for too long then it will kill them.  Alejandro's power is to make it stop.

>>Who healed kensei, was it Hero?<<

He healed himself, the same way that Claire does.

>>Nathan looks cute nowadays, is he in disguise?<<

He's presumably still using his real name (otherwise he wouldn't have gone to the police station), so it's probably not a disguise.

Maya.  Her eyes start bleeding, and then those of everyone around her.  It causes them great pain and eventually kills them, but she is unaffected otherwise.

Oh it's cause Nadia left them and said Maya is evil that i thought it may be her that Maya was trying to kill. That she collapsed just made me confused. I get it now....thanks!

LOL SO true!

The Maya situation's very interesting isn't it? There just doesn't seem to be anything positive about the power versus most others which have some way of making them positive, with hers it's just death-death pronto. Would be great to just have the way her eyes go though - verrry cool if you could just do it willingly to freak people out.

It could possibly be used for self-defence (or even to attack someone), but I can't think of any other positive uses for it.  Her power is also hampered by her needing Alejandro to stop it.  Effectively each one has half an ability - she can start it, and he can end it.

must be the 'weakest' power to have. Stopping something. Can't use to protect yourself, scare anyone away, freak people out....nothing.
