Mohinder, Matt and Nathan
Matt stands watching Molly while Mohinder dabs her head with a towel. They discuss what they should do next, and Matt suggests taking her to a hospital.
Mohinder says that no hospital will be able to help her, and that Matt needs to find his father. Matt is a little reluctant, but Mohinder convinces him. Matt says that Angela Petrelli must know something about his father.
At the police station, Matt tells two officers to take a woman back to holding before he is confronted by an angry Nathan, who complains to Matt about him interrogating Angela without Nathan being there. Matt says that Angela didn't tell him anything, and goes on to tell Nathan about his father and what he did to Molly.
Nathan offers to go to Philadelphia with Matt, who is reluctant at first. He gives in, and suggests that Nathan fly them there, and it's Nathan's turn to be reluctant.
The two of them arrive in Philadelphia, and presumably they flew there, although it's not shown. They find the apartment Molly identified, but Matt is uncertain what to do next as his daddy issues come flooding back. He says that he's spent most of his life thinking about what he would say to his father, but now he can't even knock on the door.
Nathan solves the problem by knocking on the door for Matt. Matt calls out that the police are here, and barges the door open.
Inside the apartment they find Matt's father, Maury, who is pointing a shotgun at Matt. There's a bit of a stand-off until Nathan addresses Matt as “Parkman”. Maury realises who Matt is and asks him what he's doing there.
Matt says that he wants to know Maury is doing inside Molly's dreams. He also asks about Kaito's murder and why Angela is protecting Maury. Maury is distracted, and Matt is able to disarm and handcuff him.
Maury tells them that they've got it wrong, and the reason he's carrying a shotgun is because of a photo which is on his desk. Nathan picks it up and discovers that it's Maury from the group photograph, and the helix symbol is drawn over his face.
Matt questions Maury, but he is evasive, so Nathan tells Matt to read his mind. Maury laughs at this, and tells Matt to go ahead.
Matt does so, but he gets feedback, of the same sort he got when he tried to read Peter's mind after they met in Texas. Maury tells Matt that they're not so different, and promises to tell him everything if he removes that handcuffs.
Back at Mohinder's apartment, he receives a phone call from HRG. Mohinder asks where HRG has been, and HRG says that he's been at work. The shot of HRG suggests otherwise, as he's walking along a street with the Haitian, presumably in Odessa.
Mohinder tells him that Molly's getting worse, and HRG suggests taking her to the hospital. Mohinder says that the hospital won't know what to do, and he's going to take her to the Company. HRG warns him not to do so, telling him to remember whose side he's on, to which Mohinder replies that he's on Molly's side.
In Philadelphia, Matt uncuffs Maury and says that he must tell them everything. Maury begins by apologising to Matt, but Matt rebuffs him.
Maury tells Matt and Nathan that the group photographed together just found each other. A few of them thought that they were invincible, and Maury claims that he did what could to stop them.
He explains that his and Matt's power only begins at reading minds and there's more that they can do. He says that he his something in a back room that can help explain it.
Matt follows him into the room and the door slams shut behind them. Nathan gets alarmed and tries the door, but finds it locked.
Matt finds himself in a dark room and calls out to his father. A door opens, flooding the room with light, and Matt now appears to be in a prison cell. A guard approaches Matt, grabs hold of him and pushes him up against the wall, all the time talking in a garbled voice.
Nathan tries to force the door from the kitchen and eventually gets it open. He goes through the door and finds himself on top of the Deveaux building. All around the building is the ruined city of New York, which Nathan says is impossible as they saved the city.
Back in the apartment, Maury enters the kitchen from the back room. He wishes Matt and Nathan pleasant dreams before picking up his jacket and leaving.
Mohinder has ignored HRG's advice and taken Molly to the Company. Bob tells him that Molly's in good hands, but he has an assignment for Mohinder.
Bob hands Mohinder a taser, saying that it's just standard procedure to ensure his safety. Mohinder is uncertain as to whether he really needs one, but any further discussion is cut short by the sound of alarms.
Niki walks up to them, roughly pushing Mohinder aside. She grabs hold of Bob's throat and holds him up against the wall.
Mohinder zaps Niki with the taser, so it was very lucky that Bob just happened to have given Mohinder a taser just before that happened. Or is it luck? I was going to comment on the taser's presence being a little contrived, but then I realised that it's not impossible that the Company has employees with precognitive abilities who could have told Bob that he needed to give Mohinder the taser at that very moment.
Niki wakes up strapped to a bed and Bob talks to her for a while. After he leaves, Mohinder tries to free Niki, but she refuses to go, saying that the Company are the only ones who can help her.
In his illusion, Nathan sees someone else lying on the rooftop. He is initially pleased as he thinks it's Peter, but it turns out to be his double, but with a burned and scarred face.
A crying baby appears in Matt's illusion, and then Janice appears. She tells him that the baby was actually his, and that Matt left his son, just like Maury left Matt, and like Matt will leave Molly.
The guard lets Janice out of the cell. Matt tries to follow, but the guard pushes him against the wall.
In his illusion, Nathan starts to fight his double. The scenes switches repeatedly between Matt and Nathan, and it becomes clear to us that they're actually fighting each other.
Somehow Matt realises what's going on and is able to break Nathan out of the illusion by thinking at him. The two of them “wake up” and find themselves in Maury's living room, where they shouldn't be as they were caught up in the illusions when they were in the back room.
Nathan and Matt search the apartment, looking for a clue as to where Maury went. They find a photograph of Bob with the symbol drawn over his face, and they come to the conclusion that Maury is headed to kill Bob. Although if Kaito and Angela's experience is anything to go by, shouldn't the photo have been sent to Bob, not left behind in the apartment?
Monica and Micah
A police officer questions Monica about the attempted robbery. She tells him that she must have hit or kicked the robber, but it happened so quickly that she doesn't really know what happened.
He shows her a photograph and asks if that's the man, saying that he's robbed three fast food restaurants in the past month. Even though it is, Monica says that she couldn't say. The policeman isn't very happy, and says that he knows Monica doesn't want to be a snitch, the only way the neighbourhood will be safe is for someone to actually ID him.
After the policeman has gone, Camille asks Monica what's going on. Monica tells her that she something's happening to her, pointing out the tomatoes from the previous as another example. She decides to go home and sleep it off.
When Monica gets home, Micah is playing the piano. She comments that no one has touched the piano since her mother died.
Micah stops playing, but Monica tells him to carry on playing. She sits down beside him and they talk for a while. As they talk, she begins playing along with Micah, although she appears to be unaware of what she's doing.
Micah comments on her playing and she realises what she's doing. She stops playing, clearly freaked out.
A little while later, she has cut some more tomatoes in the shape of roses. Micah comes in and tells her that when he said he rigged the pay-per-view, he actually lied. He demonstrates his power by holding his hand up against the TV and making it turn itself on.
He says her that he thinks it runs in the family, as his father could walk through walls. He does tell her got to get him started on his mother though, which is probably a good idea.
He shows Monica a comic book and says that he thinks what's going on with her is more like Saint Joan, the main character of the comic's story. Saint Joan is a muscle mimic, who can copy anything she sees.
Micah suggests that's what happened with Monica at the piano. She shows him the tomatoes, and Micah suggests that they go and test out her new-found ability.
They take a walk along the street which fortunately for them has a lot of people doing a lot of different stuff. Micah suggests Monica try skateboarding or basketball, but she sees a group of girls playing Double Dutch.
I don't know what name it goes by in South Africa, or even if it's played here to any great extent, but Double Dutch involves two girls twirling two skipping ropes between themselves while a third jumps in various ways, avoiding the ropes. Monica watches the girls play for a while and then joins in and pulls it off perfectly.
That evening, Monica is flicking through the TV channels and comes across a martial arts movie. She watches it for a while and then starts copying the moves.
There's a knock at the door, which Monica answers, to find Mohinder there. I was going to criticise Mohinder's presence as Monica hasn't really done anything in public to suggest that she has an ability. Perhaps fighting off the robber might count, but I wouldn't have thought that it was that significant event to raise the interest of the Company. However, the Company could have someone who can detect the use of powers, so there is a plausible explanation for this apparent plot hole.
Ando and Hiro
Ando has taken one of the scrolls Hiro left for him to a museum, where the curator agrees to help make the scrolls legible. The curator looks a bit puzzled at the scroll starting, “Dear Ando”, but Ando explains it away by saying that his name is a common one.
Via the scroll, Hiro tells Ando that everything is going well. Hiro is helping Takezo Kensei in all the tasks Hiro read about as a child.
We then see Hiro and Kensei run up to Yaeko, Kensei holding a piece of paper. She asks if they have the final map to White Beard's camp, and together she and Kensei open up several pieces of folded paper and put them together on the ground.
Kensei says that they can now find White Beard and rescue Yaeko's father. The two of them clasp hands, which Hiro doesn't appear to be very happy with.
The curator continues to read, and Hiro's voiceover says that they were on their way to attack White Beard and save Yaeko's father. Hiro, Kensei and Yaeko climb up a hill above White Beard's camp. Looking down at it, they see that he has an entire army.
Hiro's voiceover cuts off mid-sentence, and the curator tells him that the scroll is too damaged and he needs more time. Ando is clearly frustrated at not knowing what happened to his friend.
Peter
It's the middle of the afternoon, and Caitlin closes the pub. When Peter asks her why she's doing that, she tells him that she needs a break and kisses him.
Caitlin asks him whether he's curious about his past, and Peter says that she's what he can do and there's a side of him he can't control. He says that it might be best if he doesn't dig too deep.
Caitlin tells him that she knows that kind of man he is. He's a good man, and what ever is in that box will only confirm that. She wonders if someone's looking for him, and his response before kissing her is to let them look.
Which is the perfect segue to someone looking for Peter. Will is at the docks, being questioned about Peter by a young blonde woman, who is played by Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars fame.
In the continued effort to make life difficult for recappers, the character's name isn't revealed in this episode. Her name is Elle, and even though officially we don't know that, it's much shorter than typing “the blonde woman” every time.
Will asks who wants to know about Peter, and Elle replies that she works for a company that wants to keep Peter out of trouble as he can be dangerous. Will tells her about the pub, and as she walks away, asks her why she's being sent after him on her own.
Out of sight of Will, Elle runs her hand along the side of a container and electrical sparks appear. I suppose after using a taser so often as Veronica Mars, it's a natural progression for Kristen Bell to be playing a character who is effectively a walking taser. The revelation of her power also means that she and Peter must have met at some point in the past.
Back at the pub, Ricky enters with a dock worker. He tells Peter that they needs to speak to him in alone, and the dock worker tells Peter about Elle.
Ricky says that he'll take care of this, and tells him to go and stay at Caitlin's flat until he calls. He warns Peter not to tell Caitlin about this in order to avoid making her worried.
The two of them arrive at Caitlin's flat, where Peter learns that she paints. He tells her that he's decided he wants to know who and what he is, and opens the box Ricky gave him. Inside is this passport, and a plane ticket from New York to Montreal.
Peter gets up, frustrated. He turns and looks at a blank canvas and sees a picture start to appear.
He squeezes out some paint on to the palette and starts to paint as his eyes turn white. Although in the first season we saw Isaac take his shirt off when he painted, Peter doesn't do likewise. Could they have fulfilled their quota of gratuitous shirtless Peter scenes?
At the pub, Ricky is closing up when Elle enters. She tells him she's looking for Peter and shows him a photograph.
Ricky denies ever seeing Peter, and Elle remarks that it's strange as everyone she spoke to from the docks said that Peter was at the pub, so either they're lying or Ricky is lying. When Ricky says that he's sorry he couldn't help, Elle replies that she's sorry too, and melts the lock on the pub door before zapping Ricky with a bolt of electricity.
I think this scene shows why Ricky's not a master criminal, as it's not that difficult to come up with a more plausible cover story. For example, he could have said that Peter stayed at the pub for a while but has now left. That would probably have made Elle leave Ricky alone, and also have made Ricky not dead.
In the evening, Elle sits in her car and talks to someone on the phone. We only hear her side of the conversation, but whoever is on the other end isn't happy that she killed Ricky, and she is told to return home. Her final comment is to apologise to for her actions, calling the person she is speaking to “Daddy”.
In Caitlin's flat, Peter comes out of his painting trance. He has no idea what just happened, but Caitlin shows him the picture he just painted.
It depicts two people, who could be Peter and Caitlin standing outside a building. There's a street sign attached to the building written in French, which leads Caitlin to believe that it might be Montreal. Just then her phone rings.
The phone call is to tell her about Ricky's death. The two of them head back to the pub. Peter tells a grieving Caitlin that he'll find out who did it as he can't hide anymore.
