Picking up from where the previous episode ended, Adam is puzzled as to why Peter doesn't remember him. He realises that the Haitian must have got to Peter.
Adam urges Peter to remember, telling him that Peter can regenerate like him and so can repair the brain cells that were lost as a result of the Haitian's actions. Peter takes out the photo of him and Nathan, and Adam explains that Nathan is Peter's brother. This is the trigger that is needed for Peter to remember, and we flash back to four months earlier.
Peter, Adam and Nathan
Four Months Ago
In Kirby Plaza, Nathan flies away with Peter to stop him from exploding in the middle of the city. As they fly away, Peter tries to convince Nathan to let him go, but Nathan won't do that.
Nathan's skin begins to blister as a result of the radiation Peter is giving off. Eventually is does let go of Peter, who explodes, and Nathan is caught up in the explosion.
As an unconscious Nathan begins to fall, Peter flies in and grabs hold of him. He flies to a hospital where he urges the doctors to take care of Nathan.
A policeman comes into the hospital, but Peter is able to evade him by turning invisible. He becomes visible again in a deserted corridor, but is rendered unconscious by a bolt of electricity from Elle, who has appeared, accompanied by Bob.
Peter wakes up in Bob's office as a result of Elle shocking him. Peter asks about Nathan, and Bob tells him that they have the finest doctors working on him, but the situation is dire.
Bob tells Peter that he's an old friend of his parents. He also says that as long as Peter isn't in control of his powers then no one is safe.
Peter says that he can't just turn of his powers, and Elle tells him that they've done it for him. He tries to move a glass on a nearby table, but nothing happens.
The Haitian appears, and Bob explains that they've used him to disable Peter's powers. Which raises an interesting question.
Did the Haitian have his ability active the whole time he was in Peter's presence or could there have been a chance for Peter to absorb his ability? It doesn't have any bearing on this episode, and maybe it will never be addressed, but it's something to consider.
Bob tells Peter that thirty years ago they shut down research on a vaccine that would have been able to remove his powers, but recent events have forced them to resume the research. He says that they're close to finding a cure, which will mean that Peter will never hurt anyone he loves ever again.
Nathan wakes up in hospital, where Angela is waiting at his bedside. He asks about Peter, and Angela tells him had he's missing. Nathan lifts his bed so that he can see himself in the mirror, and he sees that his body has been horribly burned by radiation.
Elle gives Peter a haircut in a cell in the Company's building. She watches Peter take pills which suppress his powers, and then she shocks him as she leaves, saying that he'll get used to them and then learn to like them.
Once Elle has gone, Peter hears a voice from a neighbouring. The voice belongs to Adam Monroe.
Three Months Ago
Adam says that he's known Peter for a month but he still hasn't told him his name. They talk for a while, and after Adam says that he's sorry for whatever Peter went through, Peter introduces himself, and Adam does likewise.
Two Months Ago
Elle comes into Peter's cell to give him his pills along with a lightning shock. He says that it's been two months and he doesn't know anything about her. Elle tells Peter about her past, saying that she's lived in the building for sixteen years ever since she was diagnosed as a sociopath with paranoid delusions.
After she has left, Adam warns Peter to stay away from Elle. He also breaks the news to Peter than the Company is no closer to finding a cure than they were when he arrived thirty years earlier. He tells Peter that the facility they're in is actually a prison, and when Peter doesn't believe him, he suggests that Peter try getting out.
At the hospital, Angela accidentally walks in on Nathan and Heidi together. Angela leaves the room and Heidi follows her, saying that Nathan has told him about Peter being a bomb.
Angela tells her that there is a dark secret in the Petrelli family. Nathan's father had delusions of grandeur that led to his suicide, and it appears as though Nathan has inherited that. She asks Heidi to keep the secret, and Heidi agrees.
Peter asks Bob if he can see his family, but Bob replies that it's not possible, confirming Adam's statement that they're actually in a prison. After Bob has gone, Adam tells Peter that it's possible to save Nathan, as just a small amount of Adam's blood would be enough to heal him.
One Month Ago
Elle gives Peter his pills, but when she leaves Peter spits them out and flushes them down the toilet. Adam tells Peter that it's been five days without the pills, so he should try using his powers to escape.
Peter puts his hands up against the wall separating the two cells. At first nothing happens, but then he is suddenly able to pass through the wall. Peter and Adam meet face-to-face for the first time, before Peter uses his power to enable both him and Adam to leave the cell by walking through the wall.
Three Weeks Ago
Peter and Adam arrive at the hospital where Nathan is being treated. Adam takes some of his blood and injects it into Nathan's IV.
The two of them watch as Nathan's injuries begin to heal. As they leave, Peter notices a photograph of him and Nathan, which he takes.
In a shipping yard, Adam gives Peter his passport and a plane ticket to Montreal. Elle and the Haitian find them, and Peter and Adam split up.
Elle shoots them with lightning, and Peter's shirt catches fire. He takes off his shirt and runs away, followed by the Haitian.
The Haitian catches up with Peter and pushes him into an empty container. He tells Peter handcuffs Peter to the side of the container, saying that he's not going to take Peter back to the Company.
The Haitian takes off his necklace and puts it around Peter's neck. He says that Angela helped him once and now he's helping Peter. He puts his hand to Peter's forehead and erases his memory before shutting Peter inside the container.
Present Day
Nathan arrives at the pub in Ireland looking for Peter.
Alejandro and Micah
Four Months Ago
In the Dominican Republic, Alejandro has just got married. At the reception, Maya expresses her reservations at Alejandro getting married to someone he's only known for four months. She's also concerned Alejandro's new bride dancing with her ex-boyfriend.
Maya goes off on her own, and a back tear runs down from her eye. She stops near a door and hears a sound from the other side.
Opening the door, she finds the bride and ex-boyfriend kissing, and it looks like they're on the verge of doing something more. The ex-boyfriend grabs hold of Maya and warns her not to tell anyone.
Maya's eyes turn black, as do that of the bride and boyfriend. The two of them collapse, and Maya runs outside. She sees everyone who was at the reception lying dead on the ground. The only person unaffected is Alejandro.
One Month Ago
Alejandro finds Maya in a church in Venezuela, where she has taken orders and become a nun. I have to say that the two of them certainly get around, as by my count this is the sixth different country we've seen them in.
Alejandro tells Maya that she needs to come home, and a policeman enters and tries to handcuff her. Maya's eyes begin to bleed and the policeman falls to the ground. Alejandro is able to calm Maya down and stop her eyes from bleeding and the two of them leave, leaving the policeman still lying on the floor, but alive.
Present Day
Maya drives while Sylar sits in the passenger seat and Alejandro sleeps in the back. Sylar creepily reaches out to touch Maya's hair.
Niki, Micah and D.L.
Four Months Ago
At a hospital, which may or may not be the same one Peter took Nathan to, Niki and Micah are told that D.L.'s surgery was successful. Given that we know he's dead, that must mean he dies at some other point during the episode.
Niki and Micah visit D.L. after his surgery, and Niki tells the doctor that they don't have insurance. Bob appears and says that everything has been taken care of. He tells her that there is a cure for her, but if she wants it then she will have to leave her family and come to the Company.
Three Months Ago
Micah celebrates his birthday with Niki and D.L. Niki tells Micah to make a wish as he blows out the candles on his cake, and Micah says they already know what his wish is.
He wants them to be like the “Fantastic Four minus one”, and fight crime together. D.L. tells Micah that's not possible, but he has found a job which he hopes will make him Micah's hero.
Micah goes inside, and Niki who has been a little out of it the whole time says that all she wanted to do was smile at her son on his birthday, but she couldn't even manage. D.L. tells her to stick with the medication, and things will get better. A little while later, Niki pours the pills for her multiple personality disorder down the sink.
Two Months Ago
Niki practices in front of a mirror for her first day working as a car saleswoman. D.L. leaves to take Micah to school and once he's gone, a voice addresses Niki,
Niki tells Jessica to go away, but the voice says that it's not Jessica. Niki looks in the mirror, and her reflection tells her that she's Gina, an identity Niki used when she ran away to Los Angeles for a summer. The two of them talk briefly, and then Niki ends up trapped in the mirror while Gina walks away.
D.L.'s job is that of a fireman, and while dealing with a burning house, a woman says that her daughter is still inside. D.L. heads inside the building and rescues the girl. The other firemen cheer, although one looks at him a bit strangely, probably because he's not sure how D.L. was able to emerge from the fire at a place where there seems to be a solid wall.
D.L. returns home to find Micah watching the report of the fire on TV. Micah tells D.L. that he really is a hero.
When D.L. asks, Micah says that Niki hasn't come home yet. D.L. goes into their bedroom where he sees a message written in lipstick on the mirror saying, “Gone to LA”.
One Month Ago
Gina/Niki is at an L.A. Nightclub, doing drugs and dancing with a shady-looking man. D.L. comes into the nightclub and addresses Gina as Jessica, but she tells him to guess again.
He hands Gina a picture of their family, and the man Gina was dancing with takes exception to this. He tries to punch D.L. but his fist passes through D.L.'s head. D.L. punches the man in the stomach, with the result that he collapses on the floor.
Niki regains control of her body and the two of them leave. As they're walking out of the nightclub, the man who D.L. punched appears and shoots him in the chest.
Three Weeks Ago
Niki, Micah, Monica, Nana and Damon are at D.L.'s wake, Micah holding D.L.'s Medal of Valour. Niki tells Nana that she's going to get some help, and Nana replies that if Niki wants anything, she just needs to ask. As people leave, Bob appears and looks at Niki, and the two of them nod at each other.
Present Day
Niki thanks Bob and then leaves the Company's building with her suitcase.
Adam and Peter - Present Day
Peter staggers back, and tells Adam that he remembers everything. Adam asks him if they should save the world, and Peter nods in return.
