Set in Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, UK, meet Dr. Alison Cronin whose ongoing mission is to stop the illegal smuggling of primates from the wild.
Some of the animals in desperate need of help include chimps that have been used as part of laboratory experiments, mistreated as circus acts or used as photographers props.
It is here that they are given the chance to spend the rest of their lives being cared for in a natural environment.
Dark Days In Monkey CityPremiered: Monday, 3 May 2010 at 18h40
Runs Mondays to Fridays at the same time for 14 episodes.
Dark Days in Monkey City is based on the Smithsonian Primate Project, the longest–running study of primates in the world.
Deep within the abandoned ruins of the ancient Sri Lankan city of Polonnaruwa, follow the Temple Troop tribe as they defend their territory - Fig Tree Vale. Their ancient enemy, the Black Claws, will stop at nothing to conquer the area and a bloody conflict is brewing.
Now, the ever-increasing tension between these two groups of monkeys is on the edge of all-out war. This 13-part series blends graphic animation with live action to present an epic tale of love, treachery, and triumph.
Orangutan Island 2Premiered: Tuesday 4 May, 2010 at 18h10
Runs Mondays to Fridays at the same time for 13 episodes.
Orangutan Island 2 continues to chronicle the lives of a group of orphaned orangutans as they learn to live together in a protected sanctuary in Borneo.
In this season, Lone Dröscher-Nielsen project manager of the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, has decided to integrate the older orangutans with the younger orphans.
The hope is that the elders will nurture and teach the youngsters, but this also could upset the dynamic of the island, endangering the progress made toward creating a strong society that can survive in the wild.
It is a bold experiment but if they succeed, they just might have a chance of making it on their own.
Going Ape 2Premiere date: Thursday, 20 May 2010 at 17h15
Runs weekly, in double bill half-hour episodes.
Going Ape 2 goes into to the rainforests of Central Africa, to witness the work of the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF) and their struggle to save orphaned apes.
These animals are being hunted and butchered for their bushmeat and those too small to eat are left to die or sold illegally as pets.
This series tells the story of the orphans and of those who fight for their survival, their freedom and their future.
The show also explores the bushmeat trade - following traffickers from Cameroon to the European markets via Heathrow as they try to sell their illegal wares around the world.
Animal Planet is on DStv Channel 264.
