Idols 8: Top 7 song choices

The Top 7 Idols are hard at work this week preparing for a very special Choral Spectacular this weekend, with very special guest stars: the Drakensberg Boys Choir.

Dominic Neill chose Coldplay’s “Paradise” for his choral number and Tshidi Tenyane plans to reinterpret Mary J. Blige’s “As”.

Melissa Allison made a bold choice in Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox’s hit from the Eighties, “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves”.

Sheki Donnell picked Macy Grey’s big hit, “I Try”, and her fellow Durbanite, Khaya Mthethwa, is performing R. Kelly’s anthem, “I Am The World’s Greatest”.

Simphiwe Gwegwe also chose an R. Kelly song, “Sign Of A Victory”, and Monde Msutwana’s choice is Prince’s classic “Purple Rain”.

This week the Top 7 are getting expert advice from their musical mentor, South Africa’s award-winning and platinum-selling songstress, Lira.

The Idols Season 8 Top 7 Spectacular airs on M-Net and M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 26 August, at 17:30.

Tjoo, I like Coldplay's paradise. I just hope that Dom will not butcher the song, he must do the song some justice*hopeful*

Looking forward to Simphiwe, Shekhi and yeah finally Khaya too it's about time he sings a song that will make him shine again! I would have loved for him to choose "I believe I can Fly" though instead and sing it like that boy from The Voice.

Simphiwe as well could have done with "The Worlds Greatest" instead of his choice but either way I know he will kill it as usual.

Shekhi! I cant wait!!!!1

Wow! I'm loving the songs. I can't wait for Monday morning so i can be glued on my pc.

@AGREE Oh i agree with u love. That song is marvellous. "Oh PARA PARA PARADISE OH OH HOHOHOHO"....love this song too..

Macy Grey's song............I used to sing it at school coz i had this funny weird voice. I think Sheki is gonna kill it coz she has that voice vele.

WOW Melisa is brave....i'll be shaking my ass like im in dance classes. Great lyrics though!!!

Tshidi Matsiland she cant do no wrong in my eyes. BTW is it the same song featuring George Michael???? If its that 1 then she is gonna kill it as well. I KNOW.

Mmmhhhh those RKelly's songs.........boys plz don't mess up nhe!!!!!

oh, khaya did it this time.............. i have my top 3 already (khaya, tshedi and shekinnah)

while i don't mind any of the three winning, khaya will take it because of the support that was created by his audition and his appearance on joyous celebration 16. he just has massive support

Let me start with Melissa.......I think she was awesome. The only thing that is gonna put her at the botton is bcoz of her song. I don't thing intsha yanamuhla ibiyazi la ngoma. But believe me, she did a brilliant job. That was great. I just loved the way she was swinging her hips. She had a good time i could see.

Sheki oh Shekiland.......Something moved on my stomach. I think they call it butterflies. That was fantastic.

Matshidiso oka Nomtsidiland........You were OK nanartjie but i wanted more lol.

Dom, nothing personal but he tried. I knew he is gonna struggle on that high note. Ngaphandle kwalokho it was a lovely song. Its still ringing in my head.

Lastly, whoever came up with the boys choir deserves this MCWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH((()))). Those cuties did a great job. Ncoooooooohh
