I often wonder about the impact of winning a SAFTA so I asked Rhythm City actress Tebogo Khalo about it
when I caught up with her recently.
Tebogo won a SAFTA in 2011 for Best Supporting Actress in a Soap Opera for her role as Puleng and has this to say about it:
Tashi: Having won a SAFTA as you have, has it made an impact on your career?
Tebogo: Not really.
*laughs* It's a bit sad but not really. I think it's made an impact personally - it just makes me want to work a bit harder.
I got my SAFTA in 2011 when I was still new in the industry so having that has made me work harder in terms of acting.
Tashi: Did it make you feel like you had to prove that you were worthy of winning the SAFTA?
Tebogo: Yes, but in terms of getting more work, it really hasn't paid off at all, which is a bit sad.
Tashi: It is.
Tebogo: You'd think that people would recognise that you have a SAFTA and give you work but it really hasn't opened doors for me in terms of getting more work.
Tashi: The SAFTAs have been around for 10 years so you'd think things would be different!
