Bio

Joel Kinnaman is a Swedish actor best known to English actors for his starring role as detective Stephen Holder in the crime drama television series The Killing, from 2011-2013.

Originally from Stockholm, Sweden, Kinnaman quickly became a highly sought after artist after starring in the Swedish film, Snabba Cash, directed by Daniel Espinosa.

It was the first instalment of the trilogy, based on the international bestseller written by Jens Lapidus and became the highest grossing Swedish film ever made.

Kinnaman then captured the attention of Hollywood when he screen tested for the lead roles in George Miller's Fury Road for Warner Bros and Kenneth Branagh's Thor for Paramount.

Shortly thereafter, Kinnaman decided to relocate to Los Angeles and was quickly cast in AMC's The Killing.

Kinnaman travelled to Russia to star as the villainous lead in the Summit/New Regency feature, The Darkest Hour, directed by Chris Gorak. He stars alongside Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby in this thriller that centers on a group of kids who struggle to survive after an alien invasion.

Kinnaman received a nomination for the 2010 Guldbagge Award (Swedish equivalent of the Oscar) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in the Swedish mini-series Johan Falk. He was also nominated for the 2011 Guldbagge Award for Best Actor for his work in Snabba Cash.

A graduate of the prestigious Swedish Academic School of Drama, whose alumni include Stellan Skarsgård, Peter Stormare and Lena Olin, Kinnaman currently resides in Los Angeles.
