Bio

Michael Mol is a South African doctor and television presenter best known for co-hosting the SABC3 magazine programme Top Billing.

As of 6 September 2008 he is a co-presenter of the travel series Top Travel, a sister show to Top Billing, both of which are made by Tswelopele Productions.

He began co-hosting another Tswelopele production, the SABC3 breakfast show Expresso, in October 2010, and in 2011 created, produced and presented the medical advice lifestyle series Hello Doctor.

Besides his TV work, he is an MC, presenter and transformational speaker and has in recent years been shifting his emphasis to assisting people and organisations understand the basis for truly significant living. "From success to significance" is a phrase you will hear often from him.

Michael grew up in Pretoria, where he studied and completed his training as a medical doctor in 1995, with an MBChB from the University of Pretoria.

He quickly added a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (Dip PEC) and qualified in Advanced Trauma, Cardiac & Paediatric Life Support (APLS, ATLS, ACLS).

His medical experience includes two years as Senior HO in an Emergency unit, and one year as the Emergency Flight Physician on one of only two Medical Emergency Choppers serving Gauteng.

He has continued to maintain his interest and qualifications in medicine, keeping up his registration as a medical doctor, while developing into a leading professional in HIV Management.

He then entered (and much to his surprise) won the Mr South Africa competition, and this allowed him to launch a career in the media. Michael grabbed the opportunity with both hands, and has rapidly made a name for himself as a superlative communicator, and gifted commentator on life.

Besides the regular plaudits of audiences, he has received a number of industry accolades, including the NTVA Award for Best On Camera Presentation (2000, 2001, and 2003), and the NTVA Award in 2001 for Scriptwriting.

Michael was nominated by the leading CEO’s as one of the top business speakers of 2004 at the GIBS Speakers Awards.

As a Master of Ceremonies, he has few equals, and is much sought after around the world.

Some of his personal highlights include: Miss South Africa 1998 (live broadcast), Miss South Africa Teen (1999, 2000, 2001 - all live broadcasts), Miss Africa 2001, 2002 and 2004 (live broadcast across Africa, Asia & Europe), Kora All Africa Music Awards 2001 and 2003 (live broadcast across Africa, Asia & Europe), the SAPPI awards 2001 (Hong Kong), the Presidents Cup 2003 (Players & Presidents Wives), Dunhill’s Symphony of Fire (SA & Nigeria), and the J&B Met (2000-2004), to name but a few.

Michael's passion for understanding the world around him has led him to make a subtle shift in emphasis by joining TomorrowToday.biz, a futurist consultancy, in 2004.

This shift allows him to devote more time to working with individuals and organisations, helping them to understand the way the world works, trends that will affect us in the future, and what to do today to be ready for them.

In particular, Michael has a passion for helping people find true significance and a holistic, balanced approach to the world they live in. This combines his medical training, his life experiences and his business skills in a truly unique blend that sets him aside from the average motivational or inspirational speaker.

Michael has been married to Jacqui since 1994, and has two children, Joshua and Rachel. He is fluent in both English and Afrikaans.
