Julia Louis-Dreyfus is an American actress and comedienne best known for her sitcom roles as Elaine Benes in Seinfeld (1990-1998) and as Christine 'Old Christine' Campbell in The New Adventures of Old Christine, from 2006-2010.
Louis-Dreyfus was born in New York City and grew up in both New York and Washington DC. She went to Northwestern University In Evanston, Illinois where she met Brad Hall, who she married in 1987.
Between 1982 - 1985 she was a member of the cast of Saturday Night Live where she met Seinfeld co-writer Larry David who cast her as Elaine Benes in Seinfeld, which premiered in 1990.
Between 1990 and 1998 she played Elaine in the show until its end and earned acclaim and recognition for her performance.
She received an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, five Screen Actors Guild Awards and four American Comedy Awards during the show's nine-year run.
She later starred in The New Adventures of Old Christine, for which she won the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Her other television credits include a recurring role in Arrested Development as the lying prosecutor Maggie; the lead role in a sitcom created for her husband entitled Watching Ellie (2002), which ran for 16 episodes before it was cancelled; and voice roles in the television movie Animal Farm (1999) and The Simpsons.
Her feature film credits include A Bug's Life (1998), Father's Day (1997), Deconstructing Harry (1997), North (1994) and Jack the Bear (1993).
Louis-Dreyfus' maternal half-sister, Lauren Bowles, is also an actress, appearing with her on Seinfeld and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Julia has been married to actor and writer Brad Hall, whom he met while both were attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, since 1987. They both performed on Saturday Night Live from 1982-1984 and have two sons, Henry (born 1992) and Charles (born 1997).
Her cousin, Robert Louis-Dreyfus, is the former owner of Adidas.
