ABOUT

Packaged by Media 24's television unit (which also produces Afrikaans lifestyle channel VIA), HONEY was launched on the DStv satellite service on 15 February, 2021.

According to the channel at launch, it was about "celebrating and exploring African lives and loves".

The content was focused on lifestyle, fashion, food, weddings, dating and reality programming.

HONEY was broadcast in all key African regions including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania, DRC, Cameroon and South Africa.

The channel's focus was on authentic African storytelling, partnering with producers from across Africa to create shows with storylines specific to the continent, with Pan-African casting a key feature of the content strategy.

The channel launched with the Kenyan cooking competition series Making the Menu at 17h00 on Monday 15 February, 2021. The show is a cook-off between two Kenyan food bloggers to see whose dish will make it onto the menu of a restaurant.

Other shows at launch included the reality makeover show Room Reno, talk show The Buzz, Nigerian reality series Wawu, That's My Dress, the cross-continental fashion competition Salon Battle, the lifestyle series Wedding Insider and the docu-reality series Pastors' Wives.
