Desmond Dube is a South African comedian, actor, writer and producer best known for starring in the 'Amaglug-glug' television commercial and for his comedy shows Dube on Monday and Dube on 2.

Desmond started acting at the age of 12 in community theatre and has since worked as a theatre, television and commercial actor as well as a writer, producer and director.

Dube is well known for his theatrical work and appearances in international theatre productions which include The Fantastics (with Jason Donovan), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the musical Jozi Jozi, Streetsisters (toured Europe for 14 months), Scribble, You Fool How Can the Sky Fall, Julius Caesar, Survival and many more.

Most recently he played the lead role in the theatre production (musical comedy) Who Really Freed Nelson!? staged at the Market Theatre which was very successful and well received by the public.

Multi-lingual, Dube has firmly established himself as a ‘personality for the people’ in television programmes such as Suburban Bliss, for which he received an Avanti Award for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy Series.

Following that, came another award winning performance in the TV series Joburg Blues (Best Comedy Actor) and his performance as a taxi driver in an advert for Sasol won him a Loerie award for Outstanding Performance in a Television Advert.

He has also written numerous television adverts, which earned him a one-year ad campaign with the clothing company Sales House.

His other TV projects include presenting and directing Short Left Challenge a programme for Tourism South Africa, hosting, and writing the entertainment variety shows Dube on Monday and Dube on 2 as well as producing and conceptualizing The Comedy Cabin on SABC2.

Desmond's also featured in various films Leon Schuster's Millennium Menace and Panic Mechanic. His other film credits include roles in the British film The Long Run with local actress Nthati Moshesh and Academy Award winner Armin Mueller-Stahl and Inside with Louis Gosset Jnr in the movie Inside.

In 2004, Desmond was cast in a lead role in Academy Award nominated Hotel Rwanda, starring alongside Nick Nolte and Don Cheadle.

From 2008-2009 Desmond starred alongside Jill Scott, Anika Noni Rose and Lucian Msamati in the television drama series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

In 2012 he hosted the e.tv reality makeover series Jack Up Your Shack, in which families compete against each other to see who can make the best renovations to their houses in a prescribed period of time, with an overall winner being chosen by the viewing public winning a grand prize.
