Bio
David Clatworthy was a South African actor and director best known for his starring television sitcom roles as Arno in On the Couch and as Clive Wright in Konsternasie Oppie Stasie, both of which aired on SABC2.
He also starred as Commander Schoeman in the Mzansi Magic crime drama series Mshika-shika, in 2012.
David attended Pretoria Boys High School and was regimental instructor for the School of Artillery from 1978-1979.
He studied for a bilingual Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama at the University Of Cape Town between 1980 and 1983.
His theatre, film and television highlights include The King and I, Life Is a Pitch, Macbeth, Revamp (musical), The Boys Next Door, Beyond Therapy, Homeland, Toering, Cry The Beloved Country, Koning, Going Up, Isidingo, Zero Tolerance, Hard Copy, Meester, Iemand Om Lief Te He, The Lab, 7de Laan and Justice For All.
David won the Fleur Du Cap Award for best supporting actor for his role as Jamie in Long Day’s Journey Into Night and for his role as Eddie in Greek.
He was also nominated for a Fleur Du Cap Award in 1989 and the Dalro award in 1989. David also appeared in over 100 radio dramas.
In 2013 he had a guest starring role in the SABC3 sitcom Safe as Hauser's.
As a director, he directed on the kykNET soapie Getroud met Rugby.
David died following a battle with oesophagus cancer on 8 September, 2020. He was 60.
