Nicky Greenwall is a South African television producer and personality best known for writing, producing and fronting the entertainment magazine show The Showbiz Report, on e.tv.
Nicola Fiona Greenwall was born in Cape Town on the 11th March 1979 to Evon and Ryno Greenwall.
Her first presenting job came at the age of fourteen - when she was selected from hundreds of school kids to co-present a twelve-part education series for the Cape Education Department.
The series took two years to shoot and while it wasn't her big break - it was the start of Nicky's long term relationship with the camera.
After graduating from Rustenburg Girls High School with academic honours - she decided to pursue a career in advertising.
In 1998 she graduated second in her class from The Red And Yellow School Of Advertising where she had studied art direction. She then went on to work for South Africas top advertising agencies namely; TBWA Hunt Lascaris, The Jupiter Drawing Room and TBWA Gavin Reddy.
Nicky also embarked on a part-time acting career and landed leading roles in international commercials for Magnum Ice-cream, Burger King, and Denny as well as small roles in international film and TV projects in Cape Town.
Nicky also wrote and produced a sketch comedy series with long time friend and performer Ruth Barnes. The comedy series was called "TV" and it aired on Deadtime on e.tv in 1999.
In 2002 Nicky relocated from Cape Town to Johannesburg to kick start her career in television. She presented a proposal to e.tv suggesting how to improve their coverage of arts and entertainment news.
In September that year she was offered the position as Arts Anchor for E-News Live At 7. In October she was offered the opportunity to host a late night entertainment show called "Nightlife" which she also co-produced and wrote.
"Nightlife" aired in October 2002 and became one of the most watched late night programs in the country - covering hotspots and up and coming South African celebrities. In March 2004 the show moved to the prime time slot at 7:30 and went live.
In July 2004 Nicky resigned from e.tv so that she could relocate back to Cape Town where most of her friends and family still lived. In late 2004 e.tv offered Nicky the chance to reprise her role on "Nightlife" - from Cape Town.
In response Nicky put together a proposal for a new dedicated entertainment news program. The station liked the idea and in January 2005 the first episode of The Showbiz Report aired at 19h30 every Thursday.
After just 6 months the show was moved to the primetime slot on Saturday at 19h30 where it enjoys an audience of almost 1 million viewers every week.
As one of South Africa's leading entertainment TV journalists Nicky has conducted one-on-one interviews with some of the biggest names in showbiz including Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, P Diddy, Usher, Hugh Grant, Alicia Keyes, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Bono, Ja Rule, The Black Eyed Peas, Avril Lavigne, Danny Glover, Brian May, Richard Branson, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Steven Segal, Ashley Judd, Michael Stipe, Naomi Campbell, Clive Owen and Kiera Knightly to name a few.
As E-news's dedicated entertainment journalist she has reported live from The Academy Awards, Nelson Mandela's 46664 concert, his 85th Birthday celebrations, The Cannes Film Festival, and several other high profile events
In the past three years Nicky has appeared on the covers of several South African magazines including Y-Mag, SL, and The Sunday Times Magazine. She has been featured in numerous publications like Glamour, Elle, Femina, Fair Lady, Heat, Seventeen and FHM.
She was nominated in the 2003 Elle TV Style Awards, the 2004 People Magazine Crystal Awards, and was the recipient of The Most Stylish Presenter Award at the 2004 Style Awards in Johannesburg. She was also listed on FHM's Hot 100 in 2004 and was named one of the most successful people under thirty by Y Magazine.
Nicky is also a published journalist and illustrator. She has contributed to The Sunday Times, Men's Health, Good Taste, and Elle as well as the BBC's World Service and Channel 4's "Top 20 Places To Buy Property".
As an MC she has hosted several high profile functions including The Elle TV Style Awards 2005, and Glamour Magazine's Oscar Party also in 2005.
In 2007 she wrote, produced and narrated the documentary series Behind The Name, which tracked the rise to fame of some of South Africa’s most influential showbiz personalities.
In 2009 she created a style spin-off of The Showbiz Report called The Style Report, which covers the latest style news from South Africa and around the world. It debuted on e.tv on 30 April.
In 2011 she produced the documentary series The Close Up, in which she interviewed seven South African celebrities in-depth. Further seasons aired in 2012 and 2013.
In 2012 she created, produced and hosted the celebrity chat show ScreenTime with Nicky Greenwall.
Nicky currently lives and works in Cape Town.
