The new series Flash Forward premieres on M-Net next Tuesday (19 January 2010) at 20h30.

Here's an article published in October last year about why it's such a must-see - written shortly after the show premiered in the US.

You may have seen the news on the TVSA newsdesk yesterday - M-Net's scooped the rights to the hott, new show called Flash Forward.

It recently premiered on ABC in the US and it rocks in all senses of the word because it's MASSIVE: it's got a universal storyline, great acting, the events are wowser and it poses crazy questions - and answers.

It's been billed as the new Lost - for those who got Lost by Lost: the good news is that the show unfolds in such a way that it gives way more answers as the mystery unfolds. I've Flash Forwarded to see the first two episodes of it and it's everything the international hype about it says it is.

The scenario: everyone, all over the world has a blackout at the same moment and sees a vision of their individual futures - six months from now.

They wake up and then need to deal with the consequences of what they've seen.

For some it's very liberating: things look good and how they expected them to be; but for others, things are the furthest thing from what they hoped for themselves and they desperately want to change the future.

The question everyone faces through it all: is it possible to change the future? Can we change fate? Does fate exist? Do we create our future because we will it to become a reality; or is it unavoidable?

It's all so trippy and fab I wish we could Flash Forward right this moment and watch the whole thing in one go!!

The US is currently on Episode 3 of what's going to be a 13-episode first season.

In our future: it'll be starting on M-Net in the new year.

It stars Joseph Fiennes as the lead: FBI Special Agent Mark Benford. It's about time he made a comeback don't you think? I've always thought it was crazy that he was so good in Shakespeare In Love and then disappeared as he did. He's waaay better (and less sullen!) than that slappy brother (Ralph) of his.

Also leading the cast:
John Cho, who played Hikara Sulu in the Star Trek movie.
Courtney B. Vance: Roy Carver on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and
Sonya Walger, who plays Penny Widmore on Lost - she plays Joseph Fiennes' Doctor wife Olivia.

The show's based on the book of the same name by Canadian Sci-Fi writer Robert J. Sawyer.

PS: Joseph Fiennes' shoes and legs in the top picture: hott.

I don't know, I've been pretty unimpressed by the first two episodes so far.  In particular, the dialogue falls flat for me.

No no no  - how can it be? The storyline's so cool and the characters so well developed from the first time you meet them - and some of the moments, like the footage in the football stadium - it's got so much drama to it all.

! PS: Dare I say it? *Waiting for a plane to fall* ... I prefer it to Lost! It feels much clearer about where it's going to go.

Lost grabbed me from the opening moments.  All the characters were interesting from the start.  With Flashforward I'm impatient with the exposition and the ad nauseum repeating of the flashforwards we've already seen.  And the characters are not grabbing me like Lost's did.  I'm still patient with it, though.  It looks like it's already starting to explain what caused the flashforwards, which I didn't expect so soon.

I'm still waiting for Dom to show up.  :)

The football stadium bit WAS pretty cool.  :)

I agree with Lingo. I gave up on episode 5. The shows moves too slowly for me. I found the characters quite bland. Pity, cause it's an interesting concept.
