What's Up with 2009 Metro FM Music Awards

Hey guys I don’t know whether you have been wondering about one of the biggest events of the year as we are slowly but surely nearing the end of the year. We have seen some shows being canceled like the Stars of Mzansi Awards but I don’t know what’s going to happen with this one maybe it is still being planned. But it is strange because by this time of the year we would hear so much noise about this events left, right and centre. I have heard them talking about their birthday month none about this event. I don’t know whether I haven’t been listening with attention.

Ja guys I am talking about the Metro FM music awards. Have you heard anything about them as yet, I haven’t except that they are still looking for a venue. They like changing cities in terms of where The Metro FM awards are going to be held. Last year’s event was held in Twsane for the first while in previous years they were held in Port Elizabeth or Nelson Mandela Bay. We haven’t heard where this year’s Metro FM awards are going to be. This year they are so quite about this event which got me wondering because November is around the corner and it is the month that the Metro FM awards are usually happening.

The Metro FM 2008 nominees’ party was on 8 October at Movida Club and the actual ceremony was on 30 November with every artist attended hoping for their names to be called. The MC’s of the event were Bonang and T-bo Touch. Well while we don’t know what’s happening with the 2009 Metro FM awards let's name who should be nominated for the Metro FM awards, who should be the hosts and where they should be held. I think Big Nuz deserve to win "song of the year" this year, bathong. I was devastated last year when they didnt pull thru at SAMAs.

That makes the two of us TerryN I so wanted Big Nuzz to take the biggest awards last year on Metro's and the SAMA's this year but that didn't happen I was disappointed but nonetheless they took best Kwaito mos.

Cheesa, metro awards are going to happen, i dont know the date or the venue though but i heard Unathi and Glen Lewis talking about them happening and being the bomb this year .. me things they might do it in Mpumalanga..since they just launched their transmitter there.

apparently the application were oopened until end of September ...

okay thanx BA for that info but they are not so hype about them this year kodwa. In the previous years they would make so much noise about them that they would be irritaing sometimes. There would be adverts about them and everything. I don't know mabye I'm in a hurry but really there's something about this years Metro awards. Anyway it's good that they are not cancelled at least.

I think they should come in the Mother City maan. We can hold a great party over here. And there is alot that the visitors can explore. And it would be nice for this city to host a much local event.

On the Trevor Noah thing eish I feel you Insane. Coz really he's been doing alot of award show lately. But I like him I wouldn't mind if he would host them. He is a great host and he's funny as hell. But what about Andile Ncube I wouldn't mind seeing Andile man I haven't seen him in a long time on TV.

LOL Cande that was a mistake. Jub Jub is a Kwaito artist according to his music even though he is trying to convince himself that he is a hip hop artist. But he is not shame for me from what I'm hearing on his songs. I only hear Kwaito kwaito especially now.

Tholi hayi no not Nonhle Thema gal I wouldn't stand the twang. As for u Sharon I don't have a picture of her standing live infront of thousands of people hosting a show, no.

The Metro FM Awards have been cancelled due to the fact that the SABC does not have cash to finance this.

Last year a contract was signed between Tshwane ad the SABC and they pulled also due to their financial constraints. Metro was given a chance to go and source out a sponsor for this event and unfortunately couldnt get one on time as most companies decides on their sponsorhip budget begginning of the year....

Therefore Ladies and gents the MMA's will not be happening this year.

I haven't heard any song of Ntokozo's played in any radio station. I only saw her performing on LIVE and I don't even remember the song she was singing all I can rememer is that she was dressed like she was going to her 9-5 office.

Yes they cost a lot of money hence the municipality pulling out. They tried to pitch at Bloem and Nelspruit and also couldnt by into it since it was very short notice.

As to where I get all this from? MMmhhhh...lets just say from a very realiable source

I've asked some people and they completely forgot that there is even something called Metro Awards coming coz there is no advertisement what so ever. @ Cheesa: Trust me my friend, Ntokozo Masinga has come back with an awesome album,i bought it , im also wondering why radio is not playing her music(esp. Metro & Kaya) that lady is talented, her voice is amazing, radio is waisting airplay with crappy songs really.
with regards to her dress sence(Live): i think she was different in a gud way, also refreshing to see an artist dressed properly, the formal look was glam, showed growth &maturity.

I dont even know why i even bother...Metro judges shocked me last year when they gave Unathi i award ka Thembisile, i had nightmares and stomach cramps for 6months. Her fake tears didnt help the situation.

I totally disagree with you on that 1.....firstly PRO is good...he's on his own league....he is too good that boy.

secondly....TS Records knows how to market their artists, they know how to push and make sure that they appeal to the public for votes and make sure that everywhere they are they're making noise about it.....so trust me....TS pushes and they push hard.....

GML I think Loyiso is not bad but that guys is naughty bathong did you hear what he said about Noeleen on the Stars of Mzansi which turned out big on papers that he had to apologise. I'm sure celebs would cross their figures during the awards day.

Kiki I disagree with you about PRO. I mean that man can do his thing and he is good at it. He deserves any hip hop award anytime. I was disappointed when he didn't win last for his Bumper San album. This year its a must he must win.

Hayi bo,the fact that TS markets their artists well doesnt necessarily mean the damn artists are the best...How many awards has Brigado won that he didnt deserve??
Thembie Seete's record company is busy throwing us her music left right and centre BUT we all know MS Seete is really not talented in that department.

Kiki also think that sometimes Metro awards are just given to people who are loved by that station not according to talent. I assure you this year it would a luck if Thembi Seete and TKzee do not take awards (again if they will ever happen...lol)

@Lex,

They need about 5 Million rand for this event to happen and SABC is not prepared to spend a cent due to their financial situation. So they were hoping that Tshwane will give them cash (Tshwane is on over draft as it is), it turns out that the agreement was not supposed to have been signed in the first place.

It is already too late now because then it means that they would have to change the conditions of the nominations and not to mention that soon the noise about the SAMA'S will be starting.

yeah guys just heard an announcement on Metro FM by the station manager that Tshwane municipality has withdrew and that the awards had to be postponed for earlier next year since there are still in talks with other municipalities

Tswane Municipality have withdrawn from sponsoring Metro FM awards and due to this unfortunate situation, we had to pospone metro awards to next year 2010. metro FM is still in negotiation with potential sponsors to have this event earlier next year.
