Presenting ... pics and juice from the Channel O Awards at Carnival City last Thursday (29 October) - with noo videotape. I got carried away with the
Joost-trash going on - and also, I've been dying to make a video-story for us but keep stumbling up against not-enough-time to do one: a goal for 2010! (ha/pun/world cup/TOO cheesy.)
So-so - here's what went down:
The verrry first to Redly arrive at the shindig: DJ Waxxy and his wife Deborah Waxxy - I think. Just realised that that can't be her surname. Couple status: preggers.
They obviously arrived early to leave early - no sightings of them boozing at the after party at all.
Buffalo Souljah (pre-his two award wins) with his army: Terri-Lea du-Pont (middle) and ShyShy Shyllon of HotWax Records. Please give lots of praise on the angle of the picture - I thought I was being schmancy when taking it.
Suddenly in the middle of nowhere I smooched VJ and DJ Chuma Phiri. Literally, we didn't even talk first - we spotted each other and the next moment BAM.
What happened later (when I put my flappy, nerd notebook away): Censored
Also slurping each other: Proverb and his WF (wife friend) Onalerona Thekisho.
Onalerona's nailoes (nail and shoes).
The reason I've got a crush on KB - it's difficult to explain, it's more a feeling - hopefully you'll feel what I mean through the pic and know!
Nonhle Thema with her designer date Gert Coetzee of Diamond Face Couture.
Proof that Nonhle wasn't wearing takkies under her dress.
Lungsta in the thick of the action. I tried to get a hott-butt pic but he kept not turning around so I couldn't get a perfect view. Will keep trying next time I spot him.
Mozambican singer Lizha James. I'd never heard her before but she was a winner on the night and all the rage - most everyone was talking about her "Oh she's so good etc etc" She was Lira's choice for the win of the Best Female Video category .... speaking of whom:
Delivered! A pic of Lira with her new hubby Robin. I asked her about their wedding pics and what they're doing with them and she said that they're for their family albums. The couple are super-private and aren't keen on spilling them BUT I can report that Lira showed me a pic on her iphone so I can describe it ...
They both wore white - Robin wore a white suit - and in the pic they're looking at each other, eye-to-eye, about a step away from each other, holding hands on a beach in Mauritius.
The sun was just setting so you see all the colours of the sunset with the sea close-by, just behind them. Lira's dress is similar to the lines she wears: long, flowing, body hugging. They're half-silhouetted/ half-properly seen and there's no wind - giving the sense that they're floating.
You know who.
Khanyi with her date for evening: Mbali Ngwenyama. According to Khanyi the pair are BFFF+ 'cos they've been so tight for years.
While Khanyi got interviewed by Channel O I chatted to Mbali. She said that when her and Khanyi were at school she'd get part-time jobs at supermarkets etc for pocket money and tell Khanyi to get one too. Khanyi's response: "No I live like a queen, I’m not going to work. What I’ll do is shopping, do my nails and that’s it."
Da L.E.S. showing off his new neon bling. Last year he wore a pricey-looking knuckle-buster to the awards - this year he spent R2.
Lady May, who won Best Dance Video. She wasn't wearing pink - except on her nails. As mentioned in her interview, she gave the awards their most OMG moment when she accepted her award : she went off, singing and whooping and going into overtime - they had to sound that bell-thing to say "okay, STOP, enough". Some cringed while others chuckled, which was brilliant - SO MTV-moment - as out-there and fiesty as her outfit.
Amarula sponsored the awards again this year - except there wasn't naked booty, which was disappointing - instead there were ... trees ... which got tangled together just before I took the pic. I asked the tree-bearers to "scooch together as close as possible for the pic" and their twigs got so confused they spent ages trying to unravel.
What's he smoking?? As you can see Big Brothers defs taking it's toll on IK. With him: Lebo Mzwimbo - host of Idols East Africa and a new presenter on Studio 53. He covered the red carpet for the show.
Nigeria's Darey who won two awards - with HHP, who performed. It turns out he's the same Darey from Project Fame - remember that reality show from ages ago? At the time he spelt his name Daré.
Blast to the past: the show was won by Lindiwe who never got her recording contract - that was the rumour I heard at the time. (Crazy stuff, apparently she waited and never heard another word.) Darey was the guy who everyone got irritated with 'cos he thought he was so super.
SPOTTED IN THE AFTER-PARTY ACTION
Big Brothers' Bertha and Lerato were there together, drinking multi-coloured drinks with kick. An update on Bertha: she's set up an entertainment law agency in Jozi and investigating online lurve. Her and Kwaku are history and she's been liasing with a guy in New York - it all started as work and then "developed"- she's meeting him in the flesh soon.
I had to touch Kenyan muso Nameless's belt the moment I saw it. He arrived, I wanted to get him, he disappeared, I re-found him at the after party and got hold of it.
Sade Giliberti flashing only a few of her many tattoos. I was stumped when I realised it was her 'cos she's so small you'd never imagine she's the same height as she was on So You Think You Can Dance. She's currently involved in production and also holding thumbs for a Season 2.
Siya Ngwekazi, cellsnapped at the verrry end of the after party - once the battery had run out of my cam,
A final something to freak you out. Who's the Crazy? Abiah from Vuzu's new reality show Cream Cartel. I asked about it natch and apparently when he sleeps he brushes it all down and then re-does it every morning.
It doesn't need any glue though - I had a friend who's BF wore a MoHawk who'd do the same night/morning ritual, except he'd use the glue to keep the Big in place. One morning my friend glued it all up for him: he leaned his head back as you do at the hairdresser so she could do it and she glued the back of his head to his neck - by mistake (I think). The only solution was to chop-it.
Got more-more to say but should go now, there are lots more pics on Snaparazzi ... to go through to the first page, please click the banner:
