Photoshop Holidays

I often hear people complain about planning a holiday and I have to agree that it is chaotic with the amount of things you have to ensure goes right and nobody has nightmares! So you call friends, access the net and try everything to ensure that you find the perfect accommodation.

You go through tons of places via the net and donated leaflets with perfect pictures of views, rooms and pricelists. Your email gets clogged by owners trying to book you a room. THEN you find the place that meets your requirements; price, area, activities and great looking pics.

You excitedly pack your bags and get there and it is nowhere close to what you saw on the pics. You basically walk into a photoshop nightmare; as you realize the best photographer and tools were used to ensure those pics looked delicious because the reality is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar off what you saw.

All you want is a perfect holiday with an experience to remember and share, not a holiday filled with nothing you saw on the website. you become irritable and it turns out relaxing is not even something you get.

The activities on the website/leaflet list don’t exist – there was horse-riding on the list and they only have two sheep in the entire place. The food is crappy and horrible! The rooms look like they are lice infested. There is no view of the river or dam, as you were promised but you have to walk 600m to get anywhere close to a view of it.

You throw a fit; and the owners are so unscrupulous that they demand more money and don’t even want to give you your money back.
Bloggers, What do you do? How do you avoid such situations? What website is perfect for true holiday pleasures? What should you look out for when researching accommodations?

If you have any places you have visited and experienced anywhere in the world and would recommend, tell us y’all!!!

My 4 fave places that I stayed in, experienced and loved are

In Knysna (Western Cape, South Africa) - Phantom River View Lodge - http://www.phantomriverview.co.za/

P.S: Please don’t try to advertise your relatives B&B that you know is dodgy and has no class but want to help it out…It has to be a place you have visited, experienced, enjoyed and would go back to anyday. This article is to help other people that want to travel and want a great experience, NOT Photoshop holidays.

Has any one been to Sabie River Sun in Mpumalanga?

It is beautiful and they do have all those activities they advertised.

In all honesty I think Mpumalanga is the best province to go and have a holiday, unless you want the ocean that is.

I havent had any bad experiences with guest houses or BnB's so I cant comment on that one

@BA- have you been to God's window?

I was so upset at the flight of stairs we had to climb but it was worth it in the end. The view is stunning..

I wasn't happy with Pilgrims rest though. I hate the idea of having to drive to reception and to their heated pool.

I was like WTF? If I want to swim in the heated pool I have to take my car and drive there? Haai no...

eish i have been to so many hotels and some i have forgotten thier names but there is one in MArine Parade Durban - Protea Hotel partick Edward i think. i have been there more than once and was never disappointed. the food, the decor, service, view of the ocean from your hotel room.

the other one i ha a nice experience was in Cape town forgot the hotel but it was really nice.

last year was in Irene Lodge in Centurion though i never slept there but i had the opportunity to see thier rooms and i love thier surroundings and the lake they have. they cook nice too.

i have two bad experiences when i stayed at some Farm Lodge in rural KZN the lights would go off at night, there were mosquitoes everywhere and the same menu each day and them i slept as some Protea Hotel in Cape Towm that also accomdates tertirary students, its like one section its a hotel and the other a Hostel, that was not nice.

there are few nice lodges in and around Pretoria like Hummingbird, farm inn

I generally enjoy South African holiday destinations and most of the  European destinations that I have done.

However this year I decided to do Africa starting with Sub Sahara Africa, first stop Tofu ,Mozambique. To call it a holiday from hell is an understatement. After Xai-Xai we had to drive over 100km potholed road that you could park your car in.

To say they photo shoped their pictures is an understatement, the food was rubbish , the place is a dump , we tried changing our accomodation and everywhere was the same. After 3 days we hauled ass to Xai Xai absolutely stunning.

Next will try Angola.

okay let me think where I have been...............

The Westin Grande in Cape Town, very classy and stylish. Super service and stunning views of Cape Town.

Protea Hotel North Wharf,  stunning HUGE standard room. That is just an apartment it right next door to the Westin Grande.

Stanford and Hemanus near Cape Town. These places are just right next to each other. Hermanus has a lagoon, very warm and not deep. Can walk the whole time in the lagoon. The B & B's don't dissapoint but I don't remember the names. You feel like you are in another country there and you can go whale watching . HUGE animals

Durban: Shoo the worst, I stayed at The Don next to North beach  eeeeeewwww!!!! It's not that bad mara no thanks.

Ezemvelo hotel and spa near Johanesburg,  WOW!! the place is just beautiful. The room and the treatment nje is just stunning.

Mpumalanga: Have only been to Warmbaths......... Shoo the accomodation at that place is shocking!!!!!! SIes I have never seen such low quality hospitality. The day activities are great but when you have to sleep no, that place needs an upgrade.......................

Eish Mathatha I would really love to go to Atlantis............. SHoo that place is stunning and I want to use Donald Trumps toilet paper.

@Maddie nami I want to try those things but I am scared of not getting your money's worth, okay besides the fact that I don't have the money for it. Anyone willing to help...................

Dont travel that often but when I do I have to make sure its enjoyable, fun, classy and wont make a huge hole in my pocket.

Bakubong Lodge perfect if you are visiting Sun City / Pilanesburg, for the budget conscious Dikhololo and Mount Amanzi great too.

Sunset Decks in Cape Town a winner, spacious, close to amenities, everything nje...I love it. If you have cash to spare then you can even go to Leisure Bay.

Umuzi Lodge in Secunda is a great getaway.

There is also this place in Umdoni Cost called Scottburgh Caravan Park's  It is also very good for camping and unbelievable cheap ... when camping we always bring out own stuff so i cant tell about the cost if you gonna eat there but most camping parks have places for food or to buy and do your own stuff  ... this is the cheapest and fun-filled holiday
