A special something for Rhythm Citizens: a quick sneak peak of some of the action coming up on the show from December, into January 2010:
Khuse's in Pieces Their breakdown starts from: Tuesday 1 December 2009
Mom Mamokete (Connie Chiume) slaps her sickly but still wily former boyfriend Jacob (Owen Sejake) for declaring his love to her- even though we know she’s immensely flattered.
Jacob - her husband’s brother - crashes into a coma (but not from the smack).
Hustle Records’ driver and unloved pop Kop (Setlhabi Taunyane), finally reveals to Stone (Zenzo Ngqobe) that his biological dad is actually unwelcome visitor Jacob…and then he leaves home.
Shattered Stone, rejects his family, including his now only half-a-sister Tshidi (Nokuthula Ledwaba) and donates a kidney to Jacob.
The still fractured family will spend Xmas lunch at the recuperating patients’ hospital bedsides - but only because it’s the Christian thing to do.
Lucilla & Wandi Call it SplitsvilleStarts: Wednesday 2 December 2009
Pregnant singer Lu (KB Motsilanyane) lets it all out very loudly during a screaming, shouting, clawing, counselling session for post-traumatic stress.
Her therapist, Curtis Lensing (Martin le Maitre), has been assigned by her former lover, Redemption Records head David Genaro (Jamie Bartlett) Curtis has to convince Lu that Wandi, her best friend and manager is indeed to blame for the recent attempted rape of the two women.
Her “emotional breakthrough” will result in a raging end-it-all row between the two gal pal L-word lovers.
It’s David’s final blow in removing 9-Nine FM DJ Wandi from the picture so that he can re-insert himself as the one and only in Lu’s life - just in time for the New Year.
Nasty Naomi Her sicko streak goes into sexdrive from: Friday, 4 December 2009
Sick schemer, Hustle Record’s A&R exec, Naomi (Moshidi Motshegwa), escalates the physical and verbal punishment of her paraplegic hubby Dan (Lionel Newton) by forcing him, via web camera, to watch her shag her lover and boss, Miles (Peter Se-Puma), who is blissfully unaware that it’s show time.
She then attempts to kill her spouse on Christmas Eve.
The Making of Lorenzo - The ManStarts round about: Tuesday 8 December/Wednesday December 2009
Lorenzo (Mikaeel Rose) grows up fast, rights wrongs and proposes to previously hastily dumped Shaznay (Carmilla Mosavel ), his older, pregnant girlfriend who he ran away from.
Newly appointed godparents, Hustle Records’ Gail (Pam Andrews) - Lorenzo’s older sister - and S’bu (Lungile Radu), proudly attend the reunited couple’s farewell party.
Brand New Summer Mix - Prince Pule & The Spawns of SatanThe festive season build-up starts from: Friday 11 December 2009
Mother and Father Xmas squabble incessantly at the Kilowatt Club’s annual party for Soweto’s homeless kids, all thanks to Fats (Mpho Molepo) being forced to look after Lebo and Sindi (Reneilwe Motale & Fezeka Ndlazilwana ) - the visiting, leeching, cheeky, conniving cousins of his girlfriend, Mpumi ((Relebogile Mabotja).
Meanwhile, venue owner Suffocate (Mduduzi Mabaso) is upset that his surrogate son Pule (Thembalethu Ntuli) - who now attends private boarding school - seems to have turned into a snobbish stranger. Nothing - or nobody - seems good enough for the child who has returned home to the township for the holidays.
The huge and wild New Year’s party, an impromptu fundraiser (with lots of circulating celebs like, the YFM twins, Prokid and Nhlanhla Nciza), is a circus of success.
Then, in January 2010 ...No let up on the Khuses’ tormentTheir continued meltdown starts from D-Day: 1 January 2010
The New Year is all about a man making a stand when Kop first confronts Jacob regards his real intentions concerning Kete, now that his kidney op is a success.
Kop then issues his wife with an ultimatum. Jacob proposes to Kete. Kop’s wife makes her choice.
Stone comes out to Jacob, who rejects him. Stone cracks, collapses and attempts suicide, but agrees to try Dr Oscar Makhatini’s (Mothusi Magano) prescription for living after being assured that he’s not alone.
Naomi Spreads Her Nauseous Net More sickoness from: Monday 4 January 2010)
Naomi, with secret relish, pulls the plug on her husband after organising a false Living Will. He's not able to speak or move but he's aware of everything that’s happening to him (i.e. anyone's worst nightmare. At least she doesn't chop off a leg!)
She then follows this up with a mockery of a memorial service during which she delivers a moving eulogy.
There’s also a visit by the murdered man’s former mistress, Fiona Haas (Anel Alexander), to whom Naomi has a violently allergic reaction.
"Dear Lu, here are the paternity DNA results… love, Wandi”More L-Word intrigue from: Thursday 7, January 2010
Back from her Zanzibar holiday, Lu goes through her Xmas mail … what will she do now that she has the official proof in her hands of who the father of her unborn child is? Be it the ex, Miles Vilakazi, or her present partner, David Genaro.
Mpumi and Puleng’s Big StewThe food romp begins: Monday 18 January 2010
Initially, Fats’ taste test sabotage results in blistering insults and cold threats between sistas, who pitch individual dishes in a competition for the right to cater an event at The Kilowatt.
The club is now hosting private functions with Thula (Wright Ngubeni) as the manager. Mpumi and Puleng (Tebogo Carlo) eventually collaborate in doing it for themselves this year with the launch of their own catering company.
This involves big cook ups in Kete’s kitchen and a sell out demand for Grandma’s Magic Chicken (“marinate in Coke & roll in cornflakes”). The menu - and the drama - will extend.
Coming up soon: December's daily teasers.
