Lovebirds at lakeThe South African short-film,
Umtshato (The Wedding) will be the first to be shown on the 24th March 2010. The short film is set in a village in the Eastern Cape where 2 lovebirds are about to tie the knot. They are then faced with family and social pressures that make them reevaluate their sexual encounters and choices.
The bride getting readyThe short film has stars such as Vatiswa Ndara as the persistent mother, Noxee Maqhashalala as the bride
NoMandla and Zolisa Xaluva as the groom
Makhosi. It is beautifully shot with a strong story and wonderful acting.
Family discussionsThe season was launched on Thursday (11 March 2010) at Hyde Park where
Umtshato was shown and interviews with the stars were done. I loved every minute of the session especially the speeches on how alles was done… riveting! However, I only have space to tell you who was there and the like…
The full cast of Umtshato Noxee and Zoliswa at premiereZoliswa and girlfriend at premiere (Jeeze! They are so talll!!! BUT lovely, warm and very friendly )
Noxee, Vatiswa Ndara (who according to the Director Rolisizwe "Rolie" Nikiwe did not want to do this short-film but thankfully changed her mind as she was excellent in this role. I, kind of, completely understand why she wouldn't want to do too many "mother" roles)
Guess who was there to support her friends?
The short-films will deal with issues such as infidelity, bad decisions and polygamy as the synopsis provided to us details"Each half hour film depicts a slice of life: A woman tired of duty and trapped in a loveless marriage; a traditional wedding day that goes horribly wrong; a couple returning from a disastrous honeymoon and a husband who is about to take a second wife. Ten stories from ten countries, speaking of love and desire, secrets and lies in a time of HIV & AIDS."
