Now that Dave "one expression" Thompson (these days known as "Aussie Dave") is no longer on Idols, a new judge has to be scouted to fill his spot for the upcoming sixth season.

The countrywide auditions begin on Tuesday, 6 April in Cape Town and end in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 8 May (see full audition line-up below). Each city will have different guest judges joining usual suspects Mara Louw, Gareth Cliff and Randall Abrahams as they tour: similarly to what American Idol 9 did before Ellen DeGeneres arrived on the scene.

First to be announced on the playlist: The Parltones' lead singer Khan Morbee, also known as Mascara Boy to us. He'll be judging the auditions in Jozi at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 24 April.

None of the other touring judges have been announced yet and no-one has been confirmed as the permanent Dave-replacement. These countrywide auditions could be an audition for a judge too. Who would be the ultimate?

Our most pressing requirements: they must be able to sing and not only think so themselves i.e. they must have sold albums to people they don't know.

No more producers or DJ's.

And definitely not Danny K, brrrr.

If you'd like to audition, these are the dates and venues:

Cape Town
Date: Tuesday, 6 April, 2010
Venue: Cape Town International Convention Centre

Durban
Date: Saturday, 17 April, 2010
Venue: Gateway shopping centre

Johannesburg
Date: Saturday, 24 April, 2010
Venue: Sandton International Convention Centre

Port Elizabeth
Date: Sunday, 2 May, 2010
Venue: Boardwalk Shopping Centre

Bloemfontein
Date: Saturday, 8 May, 2010
Venue: Windmill Entertainment Centre

You need to be between the ages of 16 and 30, and can once more audition with an instrument.

PS: The 'tones will also be appearing on HHP's new show The Respect Show With HHP - premieres on SABC1 tonight (17 March) at 18h30.

I dnt know qhy they just dont change judges.
Zolani cannot sing to save her life.

Couldnt they have chosen one of the Bala brothers( they hve good musical background)
Or maybe Lira or someone who can actually sing....

great great great suggestions GML.

Im not sure about Zolani,i know in the proffesional singing sense she is terrible but what she does works for Freshly ground as does what Macy Grey 's terrible screaming...

Afterthought: Zwai would be relly good at this judging business, but he is all over the place....

i was also thinking Zwai Bala but ke knowing how he likes to be all over the place like you said Green, im sure he'll want to end each show with a tune

LOL Pooky.......end each show with a tune...i also see him corrrecting the performers notes and tunes as he critiques them....

PS: i wish they can change the Idols format to the X factor kind...or is it coming anyways.

Mara Louw should def be replaced with someone whose music we know.
If they are looking for someone the "same age" as Mara then I'm sure that Special STAR singer would do the trick. Plus she can sing.

I'm trying to think of old singers that can actually sing here

The countrywide auditions begin on Tuesday, 6 April in Cape Town ......Pleas stop calling them national auditions when we oly have five cities as if the country has only joburg, cape ,Durbs,PE and Bloem....just sick and tired of other provinces being discriminated against[with Malema 's voice]
