Like us you may have noticed the increasing trend of upcoming new series premiering on the wrong channel on DStv.
Shows that should be on
M-Net Action are premiering on
M-Net Series and new seasons of M-Net Action shows are returning to Series instead.
Most recently affected by this twilight zone: Dark Blue. It debuted on Action in February last year and resumes on Series when the show returns for Season 2 next week (on 31 January 2011).
In the upcoming months numerous M-Net Action series will move to M-Net Series for their new seasons including Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad and the sci-fi series V, which returns for Season 2 in April.
Turns out that the reason for this is that M-Net Action and Series will be changing dramatically over the next year.
According to M-Net Series Channel Manager Khosi Khanyile, M-Net Action will become a dedicated action movie channel and M-Net Series will become the home of all scripted series including drama, comedy, sci-fi and action.
The reality shows that are currently on M-Net Series (eg. The Bachelor) will move to
Vuzu, which will eventually air all of the reality shows that are currently on Series.
This way the content on each of the channels will be defined by genre instead of demographic. The previous plan for the channels was that M-Net Action should appeal to men, M-Net Series to women and Vuzu to the youth/20-somethings.
While this delineation will still be suggested i.e action movies will mostly appeal to men, genre will be the deciding factor on signature content.
The process of change will take place slowly. For instance the reality show Top Chef will still be on M-Net Series when it premieres for Season 6 in May but over time everything will move into the new set-up.
We'll keep you posted on what will be premiering where so that youknow where your favourite show is.
