TVSA has learnt from a reliable source that both Universal Channel and Studio Universal will be going HD soon. DStv recently launched a new satellite named the Intelsat–20 to their arsenal which means that there's now increased capacity to introduce further HD channels.
As reported on TVSA at the time, DStv's previous satellite set-up was stretched to the limit in terms of space which is why the satcaster stopped adding HD channels. With the new satellite in position things are clearly set-up for big change which has already been evident during the Olympics when SuperSport added a bevy of HD channels.
In addition to the Olympic blitz they've also recently added SuperSport HD4, available on channel 178.
With all the high definition going on we assumed that M-Net Series is also high on the HD priority list.
The programming on the channel's been going through notable changes over the past few months and will continue to do so in the future. In June and July various M-Net shows moved to Series exclusively including
Pretty Little Liars,
Army Wives and
90210.
In September the new third season of
Boardwalk Empire also moves to the channel which means that viewers who used to watch it in HD on M-Net HD will now have to watch it in SD if Series doesn't go HD too.
When asked about future plans, M-Net Series told TVSA that the channel hopes to go HD before the end of the year but couldn't confirm that it is. Someone's obviously going to need to pull strings pronto to make sure that it happens ASAP to keep viewers happy.
As far as we're concerned it's a top priority for HD. Do you feel the same way? What other channels need to go HD urgently?
