Muvhango's been swapping acting agencies for various open
casting calls over the past two years and been finding gems.
Lebohang Banyane made his Muvhango debut as pharmaceutical mogul Tumahole Tlelai mid-year this year after landing the role at an open casting call last year.
Turns out Lebo's got an alter ego life going on behind-the-scenes that he manages through an eight hour weekly trip.
He's a high school biology teacher at the Nonkqubeka Abet Centre in Bloemfontein and travels to Jozi each weekend to film his scenes. The show pays for his accomodation and he drives four hours there, then four hours back to teach his students who want to talk about Muvhango instead of biology.
I caught up with him recently and he told me that he's managed to find a way of diverting their attention back to their books because all they want to talk about is the show.
The thing that really intrigued me when I first heard about his dual life is why he auditioned in the first place because he has such a full life already. In between teaching he's also a singer - he's busy recording his first gospel album which he's releasing next year. Provisional title right now: My Praise.
Why did he audition then? I asked him ...
Lebohang: "I've always wanted to act and this opportunity could have not come at the right time. I really love acting."
He went on to say that
Sello Maake Ka-Ncube's his inspiration. And that he's single. He didn't offer it - I asked. He's 32, isn't married, doesn't have children.
Tumahole's story arc runs until next year so Lebo will be on screen 'til then.
