VIR ONMIDDELLIKE VRYSTELLING
05 April 2013, Lonehill, Johannesburg

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
05 April 2013, Lonehill, Johannesburg

Danie Odendaal Produksies has become aware that many of 7de Laan’s loyal fans are upset about an SABC2 promo that was only aired in English. The promo, which was produced by SABC 2, was intended as a special thank you to our devoted viewers for their support during the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) voting process, and ensuring that 7de Laan snared the coveted favourite soapie award.

Danie Odendaal Produksies fully understands why the Afrikaans viewers are upset and would like to ensure viewers that 7de Laan remains a truly South African Afrikaans soap. 7de Laan has a very diverse audience and as many as 43% of our viewers are non-Afrikaans speaking, and are made up of English, Nguni, Sotho and Other language fans. There was no intention to upset or exclude any of our fans, in fact quite the opposite.

Going forward, we will endeavour to make a greater effort to ensure our content is more inclusive and sensitive to all our viewers’ needs. Every one of them is important to us.

Again, Danie Odendaal Productions and 7de Laan would like to thank our viewers for their loyalty and for voting us the best soapie in the land. We look forward to many more years together.

Please they must grow up. I am Zulu and I am number one fan of 7 de laan. What's a big deal really. We all gonna cry for them to translate in our own language. English is universal.

They just want to feel important, shame. As if they dd not understand what was being said. English is here to stay and Afrikaans is fading fast.Give it 20yrs you'll see.
