Since his killer run in with Tom Cruise about Scientology
Michael Parkinson has been my
fave talk show host of all time. Despite him being a mouldy oldy I love how he makes every guest uniquely interesting - even those I've never seen them in my life.
The latest season of the show (
Parkinson IV) started on M-Net two Friday's ago - after the 20h00 movie - and featured actor Kevin Spacey talking about becoming British and Tony Blair talking about everything - including The War.
It was the first time in the history of the show that Parky interviewed a Prime Minister and did a brilliant job, getting Blair to turn an excellent red colour as he tried to defend George Bush while Kevin Spacey moved his chair as far away from him as possible.
As faboo as the show is when you don't know the guests, it's even better when you do and coming up over the next couple of episodes are some namey types who should be fascinating.
Out of them all I'm quizziest to see Sharon Stone who’s coming up this Friday evening (May 19th) - in the third, most-loser position.
My best is how Parky introduces guests in order according to who he thinks the most famous is and from what I can work out she's getting introduced as the least-famous first guest, then actor/writer Steven Fry as the second, with Bette Midler headlining the three.
The reason I'm particularly keen on Sharon is that I'm convinced her basic instinct is to be cooked. I've seen an interview with her before that was soo strange it seemed impossible that anyone could actually talk to her normally.
I imagine she'll be chatting about the pathetic-ness that is Basic Instinct 2 and blaming everyone except herself for why it's a disaster.
A friend was recently telling me that this is what is she's been telling everyone who’ll listen - that it hasn't been a smash hit because of the film producers doing stuff wrong blah blah - never for a moment mentioning that the first one featured her centuries ago.
Also coming up will be Daniel Day Lewis who'll be intriguing to see if he’s as gloomily butchery as I'm sure he is and ultra slap worthy is gonna be Thandie Newton.
I really have an uncontrollable loathing-thing for actor chicks with posh British accents -I feel exactly the same way about the way Thandie speaks as I do about the Boston Legal
Rhona Pig. Here’s the full guest list of who’s coming up:
19 May: Episode 3:Sharon Stone, Steven Fry and Bette Midler.
26 May: Episode 4:Jane Fonda, Jo Brand, Daniel Day Lewis and Van Morrison.
2 June: Episode 5:Timothy Spall, Neil Diamond, Noel Edmonds and Thandie Newton.
