Survivor SA Panama Summary
Episode 2

After a quick recap of events in the previous episode, we are taken to Day 4 at the Rana camp site.

Day 4

At Rana, the tribe speaks about how difficult Tribal Council was the night before, but they feel confident that they will recover and win the next challenge.

Meanwhile at camp Aguila, Sanele remarks that Aguila is a very nice tribe to belong to and that everyone is very positive. The tribes receive their first tree-mail which reads
Pull, Pull, Tug and Haul
Claim your stake to
Win your reward

Reward Challenge

Mark welcomes the tribes and informs Aguila that Don had been voted out at TC the night before. The game that the survivors will be playing is called “Reverse Sumo” and will require both physical stamina and some planning if the tribes are to win the challenge. He goes on to explain that one member from each tribe will meet in the circle outlined in the sand.

They will be attached to each other by means of a rope that is fed to a harness. On Mark’s signal, the survivors need to try and get possession of their stakes as soon as possible. As they are playing the best of five, the first tribe to win 3 stakes wins the reward. Mark further explains that the tribe who draws the longer straw will select a tribe member, and it is up to the other tribe to select a member from their tribe who is best suited to meet that person in a challenge.

Aguila wins the draw and Sanele is selected. From Rana, Zayn is selected. As they get into their harnesses, Mark informs them that the reward is fishing net and flint. “If you combine this cleverly, you’ll be enjoying a fish braai tonight” says Mark.

Sanele and Zayn face off but Sanele gets to his stake first. Next, Rana chooses Lezel, and Aguila selects Brigitte. Brigitte wins. And in the final round, Gareth and Sam face off, and Sam wins the stake, thereby also winning the reward for Aguila.

At Aguila, the tribe tries to get a fire going but an altercation between Sam and Mzi sets tempers alight, especially when Jude and Vanessa get involved by telling Sam to back off. Mzi states that he knows when to fight and when to back off, so he backed off. “I wasn’t going to back down because I think it was both our temperaments’ says Sam. He goes on to state that he didn’t like how Jude and Vanessa jumped in.

Aguila get their fire going.

Rana is still fireless. The tribe decides to set up a group session where they can discuss what’s going on in their tribe. At this session, they can decide where each person’s strengths and weaknesses lie. Lezel says that they are all diplomats and Danielle states that “we cannot win against those Neanderthals, we are women”. It is also suggested that a leader be elected, and Jacinda is nominated. The decision is unanimous and she is elected as leader. The tribe is in good spirits and Zayn offers Jacinda a gift of a rock which she jokingly says she will wear around her neck.

Ncumisa says “They probably have most of the brawn, but we have all the brains”

At Aguila, an alliance between Sam and Brigitte becomes very apparent. Nico states that it’s an alliance between “surfer boy and Bridgette Bardot”. The other tribe members are not too happy about this alliance and talks of splitting this alliance are already emerging.

Day 5

The Rana campsite is infested with sand fleas and the survivors are severely bitten.

Immunity Challenge

At immunity, Mark asks for the idol back but asks Rana what is going on in their camp. They explain about the sand fleas.

Mark gives the tribes a quick run background of the challenge. He explains about fierce battles between Conquistadors and renegade Pirates, and that the cannon was the weapon of defense and attack. The challenge is as follows – One tribe member will be tied to a cannon, they tribe will then have to maneuver the cannon through the jungle and through various obstacles, and then make a final sprint on the beck to the finish line. The first tribe to cross the finish line, with their cannon and all tribe members will win the immunity.

As Aguila has one extra member, Vanessa sits this challenge out. Zayn is tied to the cannon for Rana and Sanele for Aguila. Rana gets to the first obstacle first, but both teams make a turn together and get stuck. Mark tells them to work it out. Aguila takes the lead and finally emerge on the beach first. A sprint for the finish line begins. Aguila is pushing their cannon while Zayn is pulling his with the tribe pushing. In a dash to the end, Rana manages to overtake Aguila to win immunity.

Rana is overjoyed at their win. “The brains have beaten the brawn” states Ncumisa.

At Aguila, strategies start emerging. Sam says that he knows that his head is on the chopping block, and he and Brigitte desperately start approaching various team members to join their alliance. Jude says that she wants Brigitte gone. “If I have to hear every 2nd day how my nails look, how well I look in a bikini…. I’m just sick of it”

Rana is still fireless and forages for food.

Day 6

The strategizing at Aguila continues as Mzi states that no-one is bigger than the tribe.

At Rana, Gareth, who was feeling “listless” goes out on his own for a while and returns with a moray eel that he’s captured; and the tribe has a meal of raw eel. “As I put that fish in my mouth, I thought let it go down easily” says Gareth.

At Aguila, Sam is still desperately trying to form new alliances. He says that they need to keep the strongest tribe together. Meanwhile Sanele says that he saw something in the other tribe (Rana) and it was not about physical strength but about team spirit.

Tribal Council

At Tribal Council, Sam is voted out by 5 votes to 2.

Voting
Sam – Jude, Sanele, Mzi, Vanessa, Nico
Vanessa – Sam, Brigitte

Sam’s closing words
“I knew it was kind of on the cards, me being voted out. I put myself on the line, my temper got away from me sometimes. I’m not surprised. I feel sorry for Brigitte going back to camp, they are pretty cut-throat so my advice to her is to lie low, make as many new alliances as you possibly can or alternatively get off as soon as you can”

Next week: Rana has a crisis on their island, while at Aguila, Jude’s tears lead to a big survivor twist.
