Survivor SA Panama Summary
Episode 4

After a quick recap of events in the previous episode, we are taken to Day 8 at the Aguila campsite afte Tribal Council.

Day 8, Aguila

On return from tribal council, Nico is furious with his fellow tribe mates. He feels that it is the beginning of the end and comments about the knife in his back. “What a curve ball thrown at Tribal council” he says. Mzi offers his advice and tells him not to go on about it as it’s just encouraging everyone to vote for him at the next Tribal Council. Brigitte says that it’s obvious that no-one wants him there.

Day 9

Rain dampens the spirits at Aguila; they are all depressed and can’t get the fire going.

Rana

The tribe is out and about doing their chores. Gareth goes fishing and manages to catch 3 fish and some eel. But the tribe still does not have any fire, and Ncumisa says that they are desperate for fire. The end up eating raw fish and mango, but while they are appreciative of the protein, they find it a hard meal to have.

Day 10

Rana

The mood at the camp is very subdued, due to the very low energy levels. Zayn says that Gareth gets very tired when he does not eat. He also states that Gareth feels that the world in on his shoulders when it comes to challenges. But all the women rally around him and try and make him feel better as they all feel that he is the “alpha male” in their tribe.

Both tribes receive Shell mail which reads as follows:

In days of old, many a ship laden with gold passed this way
Some were taken by pirates, and some by storm
Much gold lines these shores
A treasure awaits and a map to lead you there
Only two may partake in this hunt
Those that remain must wait to hear what was found but beware
Time and tide will not wait
Be quick, be nimble or
The treasure will be hidden by the sea forever

Rana chooses Gareth and Lezel, while Nico and Mzi take up the challenge for Aguila. Both teams follow their maps to a shore on their beaches where the treasure chest is supposedly buried under one of a number of wooden stakes.

Rana finds their chest, but needs to retrace their steps to find a “wooden man” who holds the kept to their chest. They retrace their steps and find the wooden man and open up the chest. Within the chest is a coconut which contains yet another clue. Lezel and Gareth need to follow the directions and find a clay pot that will be in a cave face. They find the pot and break it with the coconut. Their final clue informs them to face the tide and “begin the stride”. They eventually find their treasure (flint) in a bottle floating in the ocean.

Aguila finds their chest as well, and their clue informs them to look for a wooden eye, which will contain the key to their chest. Nico and Mzi find the wooden eye and unlock the chest, where they find another clue written on a coconut. They need to find a clay pot hidden up a tree, break it with the coconut for their next clue. They find and break the pot. Their last clue informs them that they need to search where “rock meets sand”. They eventually find their bottle bobbling close to a rock.

Back at the campsites, the tribes anxiously await the return of the others. They all celebrate when their respective tribe mates return with their treasure. Rana is ecstatic that they now have fire and they look forward to their first hot meal in 10 days.

Immunity Challenge

At the immunity challenge, Rana gets their first look at the Aguila tribe sans Jude. They hand over the Immunity Idol.

The game they are playing is called “Puzzle of the pipes”. Two people from each tribe will man a wheel at the back of the course. The rest of the tribe will then assemble the pipes lying on the course so that water will run along them and through holes found in some of the pipes. The two castaways at the wheel need to take water from a drum and place it into the wheel, so that the water will run along the pipes and into a smaller bucket. The smaller bucket contains a floating stick which will rise as the water in the drum rises. When it reaches its peak, it will tip over a metal ball, which will run along a pipe and into an iron wok. The first team whose ball lands in the wok wins immunity.

Lezel sits out the challenge, while Zayn and Danielle man the wheel. Nico and Sanele man the wheel for Aguila. Both teams start off well, but Rana encounters some problems, resulting in a small argument. By the time they sort themselves out, Aguila is ahead. Aguila gets their pipes assembled fist, and eventually win immunity.

Aguila celebrate their win; Nico says that this win was crucial to the tribe, and crucial to him.

Rana

The tribe goes fishing for eels. Jacinda says that the tribe is very close and that some people will find it very difficult to decide on whom to vote. Ncumisa says that she feels that her head is on the chopping block as she has not bonded with some of the tribe. As the castaways discuss who they want to vote for, Danielle says that she’s thinking of voting for Ncumisa.

Aguila

Strategies start emerging as Sanele’s shoulder gets worse. “Sanele’s injury is another blow” says Nico. Mzi states that he thought that the final two remaining Aguila members would be himself and Sanele. He then talks to Nico and aligns himself with Nico. They both state that if Sanele were to leave, the next person they would vote for would be Vanessa.

At Rana, Lezel states that she’s much more comfortable with Ncumisa and Zayn, and she trusts them more. As they discuss the possibility of a tie vote, Ncumisa wonders if it will be worth the risk.

Ncumisa is voted out 4-2

Votes for Ncumisa – Jacinda, Gareth, Danielle, Lezel
Votes for Danielle – Ncumisa, Zayn

Ncumisa’s closing words
“I didn’t manage to gel with Jacinda or with Danielle. We got along, but there was just sortof a huge distance, so to speak. The overriding emotion was extreme disappointment, and also telling myself to put on a brave face, because all I wanted to do was burst into tears and say “Why me, why me”. But I managed not to do that so I think it was just disappointment that oh my goodness, I can’t believe its over”

Next week:
Sanele’s shoulder injury gets worse, and the castaways play for a taste of home.
