Episode 313The Man from TallahasseeWow. Where to start? How to start?
We finally get to the episode that has had everyone so damned excited. And, wow, was it worth the hype.
Locke centric episodes have
always been excellent, but this far surpasses anything I could have hoped for. I don’t have much love for Locke, in fact, I am developing an intense dislike for the man, but I feel for him so much. I have - ever since his very first flashback when we find out that he was in a wheelchair – so much sympathy for this man.
And last night, we
finally learnt the reason for him being in a wheelchair. I must admit, like many of the revelations we’ve had this season, this one never entered my mind. I assumed initially that it had something to do with his kidney donation – perhaps an infection or some such thing… something that I thought that was definitely the case when we saw Locke in that disability office. Oh My!!!! I didn’t expect Locke to have been pushed out of an 8th story window – and by his miserable, kidney-stealing bastard of a father!
Wow. Wow.
I finally understand John Locke. Seeing all that he has been through, how can one
not feel for this man? I finally know why this man has so many issues. And can we blame him?
Wow. I was totally blown away when Locke opens Benry’s magic box and finds … Anthony Frikken Cooper, bound, beaten and gagged. Oh.My.God! It doesn't
totally surprise me that they have him though....because when Benry tells someone "Get me the man from Tallahassee", it
had to be someone who would have an impact on Locke, and it
absolutely had to be someone from his past. Who better than his miserable bastard of a father!
What I want to know is just when did the Others get their hands on Anthony?? When???? Why????? The “how” doesn’t concern me too much because these are the Others after all; Benry could probably open his magic box and reveal Elvis, for all we know.
Wow. Sorry, I just can’t stop saying that. Partly because I really am over-awed, and partly because I don’t really know what to say. This is huge. Massive. HUGE!
I can only rub my hands in glee as I think of what all this means for Locke, and being the sometimes unpredictable man that he is, I wonder what he will do. And what it’s going to cost him. Benry isn’t just going to hand Anthony over to him, of that I am sure.
Benry is such an evil sneak that I can’t help but admire his audacity. He sees opportunity in
everything. He thinks on his feet, so to speak. I wonder if he ever lets his guard down. What confuses me a bit is that in the last episode Mikhail tells Locke that Benry is not the “magnificent man” who I assumed to be the leader. In this episode, Benry refers to the Others as “his people”. Hmm. Intresting.
Anyway, Locke blowing up the sub was yet another stupid move on Locke’s part. All season, we have hearing about this sub, and we get to see it for all of a minute before John Locke blows it up. He’s now cut off their only escape from the island AND he’s done exactly what Benry wanted him to do. And he’s probably incurred the wrath of Jack. If Jack was antagonistic toward Locke before, it’s nothing compared to how he’s probably feeling now.
Poor Jack, he just can’t seem to get a break. I felt so sorry for him as he spoke to Kate. This has just got to stop, you know – me feeling for the guy. It just has to stop because then my irritation level drops and I can’t call him Jackass anymore, and I need to call him that!!!
Someone I am not feeling any sympathy towards though, is Kate. Surprise, surprise! Jack was much more shaken at seeing her and Sawyer together than I originally thought, and it really upsets me that Kate still hasn’t made up her mind about who she loves. She's stringing them both along.
And finally, Alex gets to see her daughter. That was really sad. I am really, really hoping for a reunion between the two.
I’ve probably left out huge bits of the episode, but right now, my mind is reeling. I still don’t know exactly how to react to everything revealed and hinted at in this episode. All I know is that Lost is a rollercoaster ride of mixed emotions and I can’t get off. Do I even want to??
New Mysteries• How/When/Why do the Others have Anthony Cooper?
• Will Alex be reunited with her mother?
• Does birthright play an important role in the Other’s governing structure?? This has been mentioned too many times for it not to be important.
What we learnt this week• Locke’s daddy was the miserable bastard responsible for him being in a wheelchair
• The Others have Anthony Cooper
• Anthony Cooper was a conman from Tallahassee
• The Other’s did have a sub. Bye bye sub.
• Alex finds out that her mother is alive
• Jack intended going back to the island for Kate (and the rest of the survivors, I am assuming)
Interesting Trivia• The metaphorical box Ben talks about in this episode could be linked with Leanord from Santa Rosa mental health institute, who told Hurley that he'd "opened the box" (Season 1, Episode 18 "Numbers")
• In this episode, we see Richard Alpert serving as a personal aide to Ben. Although he was seen in Juliet's "Not In Portland" flashbacks, this is his first appearance on the island.
• In Locke's flashback, the bottle of whiskey on Anthony Cooper's table is a 60-year MacCutcheon; this is the same drink that is featured on and off island in the episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes." Charles Widmore speaks to Desmond about it and Charlie, Desmond, and Hurley drink it on the beach.
My favourite
quoteLocke: Where do you get electricity?
Ben: We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel at our secret underground lair.
Hee hee.
Interesting ScreencapsThe only reason I put this one up is because these very same red flowers keep popping up all over the jungle. Monster spies, you think??
Sayid, looking incredibly hot, as he tells Alex that her mother is still alive
Jack and Kate
Benry and Alex
Ooh yes, before I go, I’d like to say the following:
I think I may have made an important link between two characters on the show. I’m not going to say what it is because firstly, if I am wrong, it’ll just be one of many things I’ve been wrong about RE this show. But if I am right, wow, then what a whopper. And I don’t want it spoiled for any of you.
I’d like to make an appeal to all about the posting of spoilers/teasers in your replies. As much as I appreciate your continued support of my blog and I truly am grateful that you all take the time to read it; please understand that while you may not consider something a spoiler, many of us do.
I also know that there are many enthusiastic fans out there, but please, please refrain from posting spoilers or teasers. Thanks for your kind cooperation.
