I am not usually one for writing, but I just had to vent. I was in a taxi this morning, minding my own business, well I was actually admiring my well manicured nails, and playing with my FAKE hair.
Two ladies and some guy sitting right at the backseat talking about me(yes me)_gaaad they weren’t even ashamed!
The conversation was like…<<sies black women! look at her, fake nails(my nails are so real guys it hurts), fake hair (my extentions), black suit, high heel shoes, laptop bag, blah blah blah but she is still riding on a taxi (Oooops...that really hurt, but then again why was she in a taxi)>>. The other one went like_<<look at her, she probably spends all her money on clothing_the guy said, <<there’s nothing I hate more than a woman who is embarrassed by her culture. (My Gaaaaaad...me embarassed?? i'm pedi and too proud LOL) Why won’t these women shave their hair, or just relax it, or plait it, or maybe leave it Afro, or dreadlocks?? >>Shoooo Batho ba batsho!!!
I dont like dreads on me(me love me some dreadlocked guy)...must i be victimised? Must i be subject to this kind of prejudice simply because i don't like afro??? hell no!
I slowly turned my head towards their direction and I made them aware that I can hear them, and by that time I was starting to get seriously annoyed. Unfortunately, the minute I got gatvol, jst when I was about to say something_it was the time for me to do the “shot left”, damn!
I refuse to be called fake because I decided to look pretty. I love my weave, and I love my hair extension and u know whay, I aint taking it off just because u say it makes me look unafrican. What’s unafrican? I wear a weave to look good, and I aint trying to be nobody. I aint trying to be white. All i want is to be beautiful!
The Tyra Banks, the Gabrielle Union, the who's who wear all kinds of weaves_and it certainly doensnt take away their
blackness!!
How can I forget the late Lebo with her wild hair drama. She was ever looking glamorous with her Red, White, Black, Purple hair! She still kept it real!
I will have my rope thick plaits because I feel comfortable with it, not because it makes me look African. I am so African and i don't need to prove myself to anybody!
I will wear my make-up(not that even i know how to apply it) and conceal all that has to be concealed, not because I want to be a model, but simply because I can, and I owe it to myself to look good...at all times.
I will do my manicures and pedicures...because i can afford it.
I will wear my leggings, to conceal my silver stripes(hi hi hi)...they can box me if they can!!!
In actual fact, this goes to prove a point that blaq women are very open minded, so capable of acclamatizing to anything. We can go all wild and still keep it real!
Have u ever seen an Indian wearing a zulu outfit to a function? How many times have u seen blaq women wearing surreys(spell check please) to the weddings? Thank u.
Would that mean they want to be Indian? Of course not. They are just fabulous...It's not our fault God made us fabulous!
Qick survey
1. What makes us, us?
2. Must we always have to put on our traditional outfits to prove our love for our cultures?
3. This month is declared as a heritage month, what are yalls doing about it?
So, please leave me and my weaves alone!
