After Shugs burned them last year, Channel O picked up a great sponsor and organized a fabulous event at Carnival City on Thursday 9th October 2008. From the reception area, with the red carpet laid out, you could feel that there were African greats in the midst to receive awards and provide entertainment.
My accomplice, who had the camera refused to take a pic on the red carpet, reasoning being too shy. Loads of pics were taken and will follow later, but don’t expect to see a Khanyi Mbau pic because my accomplice refused to take one; reasoning his camera might just burn.
After a quick and organized registration, the cocktail lounge type of area were finger foods and cocktails were served was the first stop. The next stop was a beautifully black and perspex decorated enclosed area where menus for the main course, desert and two wines of the day were provided to the guests. The smoker’ area outside this room was also decked as a fabulous cocktail lounge. There were Amarula bottles everywhere!!
The dining area set up with 55 or so tables – Yes, this was a dinner setting. So the room was romantically lit except for the blinging stage lights and DJ Waxxy as the house dj. There was 5 big screens. Security was nicely tight to the vip section so you felt very IMPORTANT. The main course was lamb shank, butternut and spinach, desert was a whole lot of stuff you could choose from. The beverages were served well and chilled, you could order anytime ecept in between the perfomances.
As you know, Nonhle and KB were the main presenters, with Rachel and Chuma making appearances here and there. The live performers were P sqaure, bleksem and KB, those guys that sing two by two (SA) and Pro Kid.
