He’s gone, see him no more! Class Act season 1 first runner up Muzi Clive Ngwenya died on Tuesday. Unconfirmed reports from www.wonted.co.za state that “Muzi passed away on Tuesday when he was trapped inside a burning house. We do not know the full story of his death.”

Class act o fthe week
Muzi with his Class Act of the week accolade

Earlier this morning, his fellow season 1 contestant, Malusi Mbele wrote on his (Malusi) Facebook page: “Muzi clive, may ur soul rest in peace my brother!!!” A whole lot of Muzi fans have been posting on his(Muzi) Facebook page expressing their shock and disbelief about the news of his passing. Lebo Makete wrote: “I'm horrified, shocked and in disbelief! Gone too soon! I will miss you dearly my friend... May your soul rest in peace Muzi Clive Ngwenya. My deepest condolences to your family.”

@Official_SABC1 tweeted: "RIP to the humble and talented Muzi Clive. Gone too soon, our prayers are with your loved ones."

Another fan, Silindile Mabaso, wrote, “not fair, may your sacred soul rest in peace!”

Muzi 1

TVSA bloggers will remember Muzi from his initial cheesy and initial over the top acting when he took part in the SABC1 talent show. However, Muzi soon picked up a few things about the craft, upped his ante and became a firm favourite amongst viewers who kept him on the show by voting for him ‘til the very end. He managed to solidify his relationship with his fans through Facebook and Twitter.

Muzi was pitted against Sdumo Mtshali in the show’s finale. Viewers were divided upon Sdumo winning as a considerable number of viewers believed Muzi should have won.

Muzi and Khabo

Suffice to say, Muzi went on to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry. After the show ended, Muzi went to New Year Film Academy where he did a crash course in acting. “I’m looking all debonair and hitting the streets of LA tonight,” he wrote on his Facebook profile page back in 2010 which I commented saying, “Enjoy man and do SA proud”.

I have never had the opportunity to meet him or talk to him but thanks to social media, he and I have communicated.

Upon his return from the States, Muzi went on to star in Mabrr The Musical which played at the SA State Theatre. The musical was about the lives and times of fallen SA queen of Afropop Brenda Fassie aka Mabrr.

Muzi and Jennifer Hudson in Winnie

As if that was not enough, Muzi managed to bag a role in the soon to be an internationally acclaimed film Winnie which was shot in late 2010 and is due for release somewhere this year. Jennifer Hudson, who is reported to be marrying her wrestler fiancé of four years, David Otunga, plays Winnie in the film.

I remember someday sitting at home and very bored, then I decided to tune in to Mzansi Magic and I was greeted by Muzi’s great acting on a local low budget film shot in Soweto.

Muzi and Blaqueboi

There was something about Muzi that set him apart from his peers. He embodied everything that Class Act is all about. He had the aura, the personality, the star quality and the body fit for a Class Act. He wasn’t your average Joe, he was a true star destined for greatness.

Fate has yet again robbed us of another star. Yes, Muzi was a star in his own right. We had expected to see him accomplish many other things still. There were a series of articles that former TVSA blogger Blaqueboi (who is now a roving reporter for Zoopy and a blogger on his very own blogspot) wrote about the show and a lot of them feature Muzi.

@PhilMphela tweeted: "I refuse to accept that Muzi Clive has passed away. It can't be. Love u bro. RIP."

Muzi, Benny and Thato

Muzi will be solely missed not only by his family but also by his legion of fans, especially women who enjoyed drooling over him each time they saw him on the streets or acting in any given show.

May your soul rest in peace Muzi!!!!

It's so difficult to comment about Muzi's passing - and the burning house story isn't helping either. I can't wait for the family to release an official statement. I'm just numb, nje.

Hhayi Caro  nami I still cant get my head around this. If this is true shouldnt it be in the news around the country or something? Phela Muzi Clive was on "Winnie" The Movie and Fallen on SABC 1.  At least ke a statement from SABC 1 to confirm the rumours. I cant shake the feeling its some publicity stunt. What did the girlfriend say? Did anyone on Twitter saw her update?

That is what the Official page of Class Act on Facebook says and also SABC1 tweeted about his death. Also, the Druma magazine has an article on their website which it is very clear that it was inspired by this TVSA article

This just in from Mzansi Magic ...

"Mzansi Magic is saddened by the news of the passing away of the talented young actor Muzi “Clive” Ngwenya.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to his mother, the rest of his family, his friends and the many colleagues who have been touched by his beautiful personality and contribution to the industry.

Mzansi Magic recently identified Muzi as one of the faces of the channel for 2012. He was contracted to start working on a key, yet-to-be-announced Mzansi Magic production later this month.

To celebrate his life and bid farewell to this remarkable young star, Mzansi Magic will screen one of his projects, the bubblegum movie Second Chances, in the next week (date and time to be confirmed)."

This just in from SABC1:

"SABC1 STATEMENT ON THE PASSING AWAY OF MUZI CLIVE NGWENYA

Muzi Clive Ngwenya made his television breakthrough on Class Act season 1 as a first runner up to Sdumo Mtshali the overall winner. He later got his first big television role in one of SABC1’s local drama series, Fallen, as the character Simon Ndlovu.

Ngwenya grew up in Eldorado Park and was inspired by international acting talents such as Al Pacino and Denzel Washington, to follow his passion in acting. His favourite actor was our very own Menzi Ngubane of Generations fame.

The sad news of Ngwenya’s passing away have just been confirmed. Ngwenya died on Tuesday the 10th of January 2012.

'SABC1 regrets the untimely passing away of a young talented individual at the time when he was looking forward to sharing his God-given talent with the rest of the people of Mzansi,' says Phuthi Moloto, SABC1’s Potfolio Manager Drama.

'Muzi Clive Ngwenya was a humble soul, very passionate about acting and he always made sure to avail himself in all SABC1 activations thus allowing his fans to get the opportunity to interact with him. His passing away is a great loss not only to the Channel but, to the entertainment industry as a whole. SABC1 Mzansi Fo Sho sends its condolences to his Family, Friends and loved once. He will truly be missed.'"
