Club 808 or Club Copy Cat

The show is just ok and there is nothing new about it. The idea clearly emanated from SABC1’s now boring Live. Is that Club Copy Cats I saw on Friday?

When ETV went public in search of a great music show, I was like: wow, there will now be something that will be an alternative to the now boring SABC 1 Live music show. If I remember the brief correctly, the channel said it was looking for a contemporary music show what will fuse music genres. Frankly speaking, Club808 doesn’t give us that. In fact, it gives us rehashed and failed style dumped by Live.

One thing that’s tolerable about the show is that I get to watch the bubbly Dineo Ranaka. Now that’s a girl I enjoy watching. About Mo Flava, honestly speaking, he sounds like Viwe Soga who presented SABC 3’s canned entertainment show Flash. It must be stated though that he is doing far much better than TBo Touch who was on Live and got the axe because TVSA bloggers never got tired to post memos that he should get the chop. He seems to be in tune with his subjects and is well placed on the show. Sometimes he upstages Dineo.

Club 808

Live versus Club Copy Cat
Live used to be great during the days of Andile Ncube and now it’s just not ayoba. I think what made it good was that Andile was also a producer of the show. Now the show is boring, has no structure = all they do is play music videos, interview DJ and live performances without interviews nogal.

Club808 is cashing up on failed Live’s content of having music news and reviews, both local and international. The show is a total replica of the old Live or One, as it used to be. The show’s executive producer, Zam Nkosi, must go back to the drawing board and come up with something that will distinguish the show from many other music shows.

What can be done do resuscitate the show from an early grave
ETV should give the show a full 1hour slot because 30 for a show like this isn’t good enough. We are sick and tired of Style by Jury. The channel is starving with regards to local content. After the show is granted a 1 hour slot, visits to studios to give us behind the scenes of musician working on their material, an outing with a certain musician to Pretoria Zoo or wherever, next week a visit to Lira’s home etc etc. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to give us an in-depth review of their couch artist.

There is potential
I must give credit where it is due that the show has got potential and needs to rework its content to make it a hit. We are tired of Live hence the declining ARs, Sam. I view Sam on high regard but he disappoints with this show. He did well as exc producer of Flash and I expect more from him. Sam, if not sure, just conduct a survey and viewers will tell you want makes a great show. Playing music videos isn’t good enough.

The show is in its second week and I missed the first episode. This review is based on what I saw last week Friday.

Club 808
Fridays at 7:30 PM
Club 808 is a lifestyle and music entertainment show aimed at youth. It’s a fun and witty (Lol, the show is not witty at all) show that reviews new songs, entertainment news and takes the time to get to know up and coming artists.

Says Zam Nkosi, executive producer of Club 808: “The show will be fresh, very contemporary, fun, flirty, and lightly irreverent – with tongue firmly in cheek – and certainly doesn’t take itself seriously.” Club 808 is a fast-paced laugh-a-minute show that will bring loads of laughs and insight into pop culture.

We can only hope that with time, the show will improve!

Have got time to check it out but this week I have to.Ya ETV lacks local content big time and I think it's high time they  bring more local dramas and other stuff. That music show must run for an hour for it to be greater for starters

I honestly think the days of LIVE are over, and that the show has done its time naturally. Its done very well by lasting this long on our screens, but before it becomes unbearable and people start forgetting what a good show it used to be, they should rap it up/really step their game up. As for Club 808 Its just another music show nothing special. I do though thinkn Dineo is an excellent presenter and deserves her own show :)

they already do the whole going visiting musos, at first they went with Zinhle toa gig and the second week they went with Tumi to his live recording. I have to be honest and say that I like it, I enjoy both Dineo and Mo, the interview with Dales was amazing. @i think they make a great team. I love the studio as well. I love the fact that when they interview the guests they don't ask all those when did you start getting into music and all that crap?

Did I mention that I love the fuse they do. Don't really watch Live. But then this show started airing before the closibg date for music show ideas, so I don't think this is it. If ekasi can be back by popular demand then surely popular demand can get them to extend it to an hour.

hm,.....i found it refreshing when i watchd it last week. I dont remember what live/one was about so im not sure how diffrent or similar it is, but i found it refreshing, can live without it though. Last time i was clued to a music variety show it was nako e la ya, Studio mix, le bo Ezimtoti. Maybe the producers can go back to see what used to work then....

I have this annoying habit of watching a show before I even talk about it. In the first episode they followed Zinhle around and she was actually doing the talking then the second episode they had Tumi while he was a live recording of his dvd. They also had Black coffee and Bucie in studio. I think it is sleek and like Green-arrow, it is refreshing. I think it is work in progress and it is only a matter of time before it actually becomes a one hour show.

Hahahhahaha, you guys are funny. Pele, you shold watch just once, set a remionder on your phone man. @GA, it's good that you find it refreshing. It is always interesting for me to see how we can see different things in one thing. For me, the show must go back to the drawing board shem

You kidding me. It started airing before the closing date? Great, ETV must just give this show an hour and dumb their tedious Style by Jury. That show has got no relevance to South Africans. Every Friday we hear the same line of : "YOu are not here for a make over show, the show has already begun. They made a comment not knowing her mother was in there", I mean please, that just crap. They subject us to boring lines every week. My 5 year old niece always does the lines with the presenter. ETV, ditch that boring show and give us 1 hour of Club what what. Maybe Sam Nkosi can up his game.
honestly think the days of LIVE are over, and that the show has done its time naturally.
I also think so but I have always been afraid to say so.
And copy cat or not, I like it.

I Think that the days of LIVE are over the show is just BORING and is not as exciting anymore i really would rather be in bed with a glass of wine and a book on a friday nite than watch iLive from that Dlamini gal who sucks to the Phila boy who is BORING to aaaggggh shame BONANG gal they are gona drain all your VAVAVOOM she dont even look happy anymore CLUB 808 I think another 30mins will do them justice I actually enjoy the show watched it twice already and I think it is AYOBA GPY

i think if E-TV can really give new production company a chance and not signing contrcats to ppl like Zam Nkosi, for God' s sake Zam is good on talk kind of shows not music. if it's not Zam , it will be Basetsana or Carol what about other production companies who have been knocking on theri doors for a while now.

Hope fully this is just a trial music show not the show they asked peopel to bid for, anyway i need to watch it and observe myself.

SLEEK is exactly what i thought when i wacthe Ingenuity...sleek and CALM.
The thing i used to love about Studio Mix was the quitness/calmness in studio. The only thing i see with live when channel hp past is the noise. A musiv clip, cutr back to satudio, there is still noise....i do not like that

Diffrent strokes indeed Makisto....and i must nervously admit that i think i used to tolerate Style by Jury....arg no i lie...i watchd it with disbelief at how we cn pay tv licences only to be subjected to such horible shows. Etv bandla...smh....
Phathu's article on JC broke down the etv politics so clear that now it makes sense why etv buys or produces horible content. I hope pop stars wont be a let down...

I also read Phathu's article there and it makes lots of sense. I just can't help but wonder because the channel is owned by Black people. ETV must just pay and give the Club 808 show 1 hour before I also write an article about how hypocratic ETV is!

Sorry Makisto i dont have time to read the whole article but i actually like club 808 even though i wanted to see new faces (im not saying Dineo & Mo are bad) but they should have hired some1 new like A-List. For crying out loud Dinny is Yfm dj & apparently Mo is also a dj. Cant we have someone new like brand new lol???I love music so anything that has hip hop im in. I cant really say the reason but so far im enjoying it. Its a pity it plays for 30min & i always caught it in the middle....

Im offtopic-ing club 808 makisto

Dont you think Isidingo always does a brlliant job addressing issues that are relevant and current. Offlate thet've been "covert-ly" addressing the media issue, media crimes to be specific..sensationalism and bad publicity etc. This is on the Frank, Rajesh, Eddie storyline. Im once again impressed with Isidingo for telling relevant stories, that we are currently talking about.
Eddie said to Frank..regarding how how he lost his credibility and job due to misrepresented reports about him...that "There is such a thing called bad publicity" (to quoter him)

Im very impressed.

This is very true GA, I only watch 18:30 soapies once in a while because by that time, I am still at the gym. However, I was able to watch it yesterday and I saw the story. I have always maintained that Isidingo for me, is the best soapie on SA TV.
