You will realise that we didn't cover the launch event of this year’s sama’s because even after i received an email with a link to register that I would be attending, Tashi was told that some people received invites by ‘mistake’. So with the fear of being one of those ‘mistakenly invited people’ the best option was to stay at home and not waste time and energy.
It came as no surprise that the ‘invite’ for the SAMAs main event only arrived on Thursday and I had to pick-up accreditation on Friday. Which I also didn’t receive because someone somewhere decided that the cut-off time was no longer going to be 4pm but 1pm. At this point I got really irritated because I had just wasted 70km of my petrol but, I tried to keep my cool.
Luckily our cameraman had already picked his up earlier, so even if I was never going to receive them, we were still going to get the scoop. So Saturday came, I went to Montecasino early and whoop, got 2 media passes instead of 1 (Thanks to Caroline and Flora/Laura from redflag), which meant I could take a friend along with me. So this time round we had 3 - unlike last year where we had to ‘fight’ for yellow carpet passes.
Those who know me will tell you that I am a Sundowns fan, but since my team wasn’t going to take the league I was rooting for Ajax or Pirates, anything but that team from Naturena. With all the soccer hype on Saturday afternoon we ended up being a bit ‘late’. But we got there for the yellow carpet.
I'm posting a few pics that I got with my poor quality camera, but a lot of pics which were taken by our cameraman will be up on Snaparazzi some time this week.
I will try to explain the yellow carpet setup - which I think didn't work. Celebs walked into a tent and as you entered there was a yellow carpet - they had to walk round the one side of the tent, then move to the drinks/food section. Loved the free drinks, even though the bar closed after my 2nd glass of wine. Hehehe blacks and free stuff.
Then there was an announcement that we needed to make our way to the main event venue. I would have thought those seats had numbers and people were allocated seat numbers - boy was I wrong.
It was chaotic, people who had seats allocated to them had them occupied by other people. This means some people had to stand the whole night on heels. The only seat that I saw that had a name on was Rebecca Malope’s seat. Thatha sis Reebs.
I would like to say something about the poor sound, but I am just tired of complaining. When we walked in I think there was a ‘born for this’ performance on stage, it was just horrible.
I didn’t get to see many performances because my poor short self was standing at the back. And there was some point when NOT all the screens in the venue were showing the stage.
We kept having to run between the main venue and the backstage venue were winners were being interviewed. This venue too was cold, and the fact that there were only soft drinks served didn't help hehehe.
A few performances that I saw were on point. Zakes Bantwini, aaah this guy, sad though that he didn’t win a single award. I think since he was robbed of the Album of the Year they should have at least given him Best Male, since Proffessor got the other two. The winners, I think most of them where well deserving.
The fashion, I really can't say much. Will let the pics speak for themselves ...
Ntate Vusi Mahlasela

Aaah the ever soo sweet Theo, i remember saying to him when i took this pic before the award ceremony that i will take a proper pic of him after he has won, sadly i couldnt. Congrats :)

Err excuse the quality
The queen of red/yellow carpet. Cant wait to see topshayela on wednesday
He asked me not to put a pic of him with elastoplast on coz it will stay forever - he doesn't know that in my eyes he will always remain haute.
The presenters, I really don’t know what to say about them because I couldn’t really hear or see them. The only thing I remember was the last outfit Bonang wore, the pink and lime outfit? Gosh!
As for Slikour? Hayi phumelayini bhuti. I buy local music, trust me i do. maara i am not going to spend my hard-earned R100 on nonsense. If the public ain't buying your music then clearly you need to go back to the drawing board.
And someone please assure me that Amu's tweets the other day had nothing to do with him winning the rap award? phela he was dissing and sending threats.
The afterparty, I just didn’t know which one was the official one. I was surely not going to stand outside in the cold in the name of partying. The one party that I wanted to go to was the MTN one, hehehe, I saw lots of brothers were going in there. So I decided to rather go chill at home and catch up on some big brother.
I honestly think the venue is not an issue here, I think the organizing was an issue. I hope they get it right the next time.
I heard it was better for people watching at home, or not? Feel free to bitch.
