Local Music Videos are the Biz!

Local Music videos are becoming hotter and hotter, much respect to the guys for the effort!
Here are my thoughts on videos shown currently. Some new, and others not so new.

I saw Lira’s new music video for Feel Good and it is a beautiful video. I’m not a Lira fan so I can’t comment much on the song. Yes, it’s a nice song but I really don’t like her voice. The little respect I had for her disappeared at Lebo’s funeral, where she sang a duet with some guy who was introduced as Lebo’s cousin. He had a beautiful voice but when they sang I wondered if they had rehearsed at all.
Anyway, I love the colours in the video, even her outfit fits the scenes.
Nothing much happens except she dances around but I think it’s one of the best music videos out now.

Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Jamali’s Secrets video. It reminded me of 2Face Idibia’s African Queen. For the brilliance they pulled with “Love me for Me”, I expected more. Their voices still kick ass though!

Kabelo had a brilliant video in DUBULA and followed up with a similar concept for the new single, I don’t know what it’s called but it says “Yekel’ uk SMS icherry yami”. Keep flexing thos muscles baba...

L'vovo
is rocking at the moment but creativity was clearly not part of the agenda when they came up with the video. Awesome songs and definitely festive hits but the people at a pool party theme has been done, re-done and I think it should take a break.

DJ Sbu did the same thing with his “Remember when it Rained” but he is forgiven because if he chose to do something else then Lebo would not have been there and I always look forward to those few moments that she comes up on screen. Plus YFM’s Trevor Noah makes an appearance and ladies you know that man is too good to be true right?

Staying with TS Records, I think Sash’s video featuring Ntando is awesome. They started it with Ntando’s Nguwe and are continuing with the fabness. Even Brown Dash’s Ayobayo is nice. Playful, but nice!

I have said it over and over again that I don’t like Robbie and his Lilizela video is another cheap attempt at attracting attention using the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
First of all, there are such contradictions in the video. One minute they’re at a wedding, the next minute it’s Vuvuzela’s and Bafana Bafana T Shirts. Who still wears a Bafana T-Shirt?

Mafikizolo’s new video is cool, those two are very serious about their image, damn! Like that’s gonna make me buy their album.
Ok, that was not nice of me to say that, especially because of what I said about Brown Dash’s shoes.
Scrap that, I think Mafikizolo are doing a good job and they show that they mean business and it makes us proud to see our artists looking that fab.
A big thank you to Theo, who has obviously been showing Nhlanhla how to move, or is it her husband TK?
She is not as stiff as she was back in the day and that’s a good thing. Well done girl, next up is some singing lessons...Ok, maybe not singing as such but lesson on HOW NOT TO BE MONOTONOUS.

Mandoz

Mandoza, always goes all out on his videos and Ngalabesi is no exception from the little that I saw of it. Though I’m not sure of all those fake tattoos. I will have to take a proper look before I can comment fully on this one.
As long as he keeps on showing that well toned body, I am not complaining.

Arthur

Arthur’s “I like the way” is the same as all his other videos. The only new thing added is the fat woman who’s trying his slim dancers. Why Chomee must take the spotlight in HIS music video, I don’t know but I don’t want to comment much, lest they bring the Metro Award to TVSA for me to collect.

Speaking of the Metro FM Awards, if you want to see who the NO NAME artists that won the awards are, Catch them on SABC 1 tomorrow night. I’ll be watching!

The SABC 1 Drama Tshisa is taking it’s job very seriously. Last night they showed us a “Making The Video” for Bafana’s song and I thought it was brilliant. They were basically showing us how videos are made but still kept the story element going. It did not at any stage take anything away from the storyline and I thought it was brilliant guys!
There are more ideas on the Tshisa set than there are in the whole of ...ok, let me shut up before I upset people.

Don’t forget it’s Friday, so that means you gotta watch ONE on SABC 1 tonight.
P.S. The only reason why I always remind you is because they now play 100% local music and I support any cause that takes pride in local music!!!!

Have a blessed weekend!!
