Do you have it in you to be the next Sis Ribs? Are you a gospel star in the making but the world just doesn't know it yet?
If this is you, your time has come.
SABC2 is hooking up with music industry exec Lindelani Mkhize to create a reality show searching for the next big South African gospel star. The show, appropriately enough, is called I Want to Sing Gospel.
I Want to Sing Gospel will hold auditions in five regions and will be whisking 30 of the best singers away for 13 grueling, trying weeks in Johannesburg, where they'll have to prove to Mkhize why he should turn one of them into a superstar.
The prodigious producer and creator of the SAMA-winning gospel group Joyous Celebration, Mkhize has the Midas touch when it comes to record sales.
He has set forth a series of challenges for those hopefuls who'll be joining him and a panel of his most trusted confidantes to sort out the divas from the duds.
At the end of the 13 weeks, SABC2 viewers will help Mkhize choose the one singer whose disk they would like to see on their CD racks. Right next to their copy of Ukholo Lwam'.
The Auditions
Auditions will be held at the following venues:
Feathermarket Centre in Port Elizabeth on 22 May
BAT Centre in Durban on 28 May
Bassline in Johannesburg on 17 June
Sand du Plessis Theatre (PACOFS) in Bloemfontein on 25 June
Cape Town City Hall on 1 July
To enter, you are required to send an SMS with the city you want to audition in, your full names and ID number to 34709 (the SMS is charged at R2 and free minutes do not apply).
You will then receive an SMS with the code you'll need to show at the door and a number to call for further information and the competition rules.
The auditions start at 09h30 at each venue.
