Press Release

Nominees AKA and Duncan go head to head with a killer collab on awards night

Sun City will once again play host to South African music’s most illustrious awards event. The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) are giving viewers and those attending the live show a sneak preview of which local musicians will be adding their megawatt star power to the Superbowl stage.

Among the highlights of the evening will be hip-hop maestros AKA (with four nominations in the bag) and Duncan (with three nominations)  performing a dynamite live collaboration featuring one of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Mdu Masilela.

Viewers can also expect to see rapper Cassper Nyovest (five nominations), veteran rockers Prime Circle (four nominations) and Cape Town’s favourite pop princes Beatenberg (six nominations) blazing up the stage. And adding even more meat to the entertainment menu will be stellar performances by the likes of Qadasi, L’vovo, Black Motion and Xoli M – truly adding up to a night to remember.

South African music’s biggest stars will not only be performing on the night, lovers of local music can expect to see their favourite artists presenting awards too. Among those stepping up to the podium will be Trompies (who will be presenting the coveted Best Album award) and Rob & Fix (Best Pop Album).

Tickets for the live show are still available at Computicket, with golden circle tickets costing R130 and gallery seats R375. Fans also have the opportunity to secure their place among the glitterati at the official Amstel after-party, at R495 per ticket.

If you can’t be at Sun City, be sure to tune in to SABC1 on Sunday, 19 April 2015 at 20h00 to toast the finest in South African music as the Annual South African Music Awards celebrate their 21st year. The awards and build-up will also be live-streamed via the mobisite www.samatv.mobi.

Live online coverage will include The Red Carpet Show, hosted by Pearl Thusi and, for the first time ever, the 360 Glam Cam, hosted by Toll A$$ Mo.

All the red-carpet glitz and glamour will be streamed live to the mobisite as well as to the event’s official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/samusicawards) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SouthAfricanMusicAwards) from 16h30, while assembling a gallery of amazing 360° images that capture all the fashion, flash and bling!
