Men's Health Look is an annual male model search conducted by the magazine Men's Health and broadcast on M-Net which searches for the ultimate South African man - one who is fit, lives a balanced lifestyle and is not afraid of taking risks.
The programme rewards men who manage to balance friends, family, relationships, finance and a career while still remembering to spend time on their health and wellbeing.
The competition has been held annnually since 2000.
Men's Health Look 2008 award ceremony took place at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on 30 October 2008.
The event will be broadcast over three weeks on M-Net, premiering on Saturday 6 December 2008, after the 8pm movie.
MH Look 2008
Brendan Currin, 30, from Johannesburg was named as the winner of the Men's Health Look 2008 at an event held at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Out of the ten finalists chosen from across South Africa, Brendan, a fifth year medical student at Wits, embodied every aspect of the Men’s Health man.
His zest for life, leadership skills and commitment to health and fitness, career, friends and family made him an obvious choice for the judges and earned him the title of Men’s Health Look 2008.
Patrick Kasongo, 22, from Berea in Durban took home 2nd place while Dewald Nolte, 25, from Stellenbosch in Cape Town finished third.
Brendan won R15,000 in cash plus the chance to appear on the cover of Men’s Health magazine in 2009. Other prizes were received from Nike, Hunter’s Dry, Hugo Boss and Dentyne.
Brendan also won a double ticket worth R16,000 for a three-day summer cruise that departs from Durban in January 2009. The prize includes flights to and from Durban.
As part of the judging process, finalists took part in an action-packed adventure weekend in Cape Town and the Western Cape.
Activities included:
Being dropped into the ocean from a Huey helicopter
Being propelled across the ocean at 100km/h in fast boats
Abseiling off Table Mountain
Paragliding from Lion’s Head
Competing in a strongman challenge in Clifton
Mountain biking, kayaking and running in the Winelands
A Muay Thai martial arts training session with Quentin Chong
A volleyball tournament on Camps Bay with Springbok volleyball player Casey Augoustides.
