Himalaya with Michael Palin is travel documentary television series produced by the BBC and presented by comedian and travel presenter Michael Palin, which records his six-month trip around the Himalaya mountain range area in 2003/4.
The series originally aired in the UK on the BBC from 3 October to 7 November, 2004. There are six hour-long episodes in the series.
Himalaya with Michael Palin premiered in South Africa on DStv's BBC Knowledge channel on Thursday 4 September 2008, at 19h30. New episodes air on weekdays.
Synopsis
After his journey through the Sahara, tired of sand grating in every bodily crevice and being subjected to beating desert heat Michael Palin decided his next adventure would be something quite different.
So he turned to Himalaya, the Abode of Snow.
"What the Sahara is to desert, Himalaya is to mountains. Both share the same contradictory attractions, appealing and appalling, tempting and terrifying in equal, and ultimately irresistible measure," says Palin.
A book by the same name written by Palin was published to accompany the series. This book contained both Palin's text and many pictures by Basil Pao, the stills photographer on the team.
