Season 1
Unplugged Joy of Jazz is a South African music show produced by Rapid Blue and hosted by broadcaster and radio and TV personality Bob Mabena, which puts the spotlight on South African and international jazz musicians and features live unplugged performances by jazz artists.
The series premiered on e.tv on Wednesday 21 July 2010, at 21h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 10 half-hour episodes in the series.
Synopsis
Hosted by broadcaster and radio and TV personality Bob Mabena, the 10-episode series puts the spotlight on South African and international jazz musos.
Featured artists include BLK Sonshine, UJU, Wanda Baloyi, Brian Themba, Nhlanhla Nciza, MXO and Kyle Shepard.
Filmed on a roof-top in downtown Jozi and produced by Rapid Blue (Strictly Come Dancing, The Weakest Link), the series focuses on bringing jazz artists closer to audiences by celebrating the lives of the musos.
It's also part of the build-up to the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival, which takes place between 26 and 28 August in the Newtown Precinct.
The series includes interviews with jazz artists about their career, family life and things that aren't popularly known about them.
Each episode ends with the featured muso playing an unplugged session of three of their most popular songs for a live audience.
