Season 2

MTV base World Chart Express is a South African reality competition in which viewers decide the winner of a nationwide VJ search conducted around the country in late 2006 for a replacement for Sizwe Dhlomo as host of the music chart show World Chart Express.

The series aired on MTV base and e.tv on 1 and 8 November, 2006, at 21h35. There are two half-hour episodes in the series.

Synopsis

MTV base World Chart Express is a music show which focuses on videos burning up the charts in South Africa and around the globe, from musical genres like kwaito, hip-hop, R&B and soul.

The show is hosted by a VJ (video jockey) chosen by the South African public. The first VJ to win and host the World Chart Express was Sizwe Dhlomo.

The MTV base VJ search crew visited four cities: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Durban, between 30 September and 8 October, interviewing potential stars to go forward to the grand final in November.

The first episode of MTV base World Chart Express will profile the four finalists from the auditions: Fikile Moeti, Xylon Van Eyck, Kyle White and Sandy Mzolo.

The finalists will then face-off for the title during the second episode on 8 November, when a panel of celebrity judges and viewer voting via SMS will decide their fate.

Viewers’ SMS votes will account for 50 per cent of the total vote and vvoting lines for the show open at 20h00 on Wednesday 1 November.

The lines will stay open until 22h00 on Wednesday 8 November (calls cost R2 each).

To vote for their favourite candidate, viewers needed to send a text message as follows:

Fikile, sms: VJ FIKILE to 34700
Kyle, sms: VJ KYLE to 34700
Sandy, sms: VJ SANDY to 34700
