Season 1

Angry Boys is an Australian mockumentary television series written by and starring Chris Lilley which continues the mockumentary style of his previous series, exploring the issues faced by young males in the 21st century – their influences, their pressures, their dreams and ambitions.

The series aired in Australia on ABC1 from 11 May to 27 July, 2011. There are 12 half-hour episodes in the series.

Angry Boys premiered in South Africa on DStv's Vuzu channel on Tuesday 26 March 2013, at 23h30. New episodes broadcast weekly.

Synopsis

Writer/performer/director Chris Lilley, creator of the outrageous comedy Summer Heights High, returns to television in the series Angry Boys.

With Angry Boys, the wildly inventive Lilley brings to life six different characters; identical twins Daniel and Nathan Sims, from 'We Can Be Heroes', and four new characters; former Surfing World Champion Blake Oakfield; US rapper S.mouse; Japanese mother and manager of a skateboarding champion, Jen Okazaki; and Juvenile Justice Centre worker Ruth Sims, aka Gran.

Shot over seven months, edited for a year and featuring over 70 locations in three countries, Angry Boys is the biggest project yet from the successful partnership of Chris Lilley and Laura Waters (Princess Pictures).

Characters

These are the characters played by Chris Lilley:

Daniel and Nathan Sims

Seventeen-year-old identical twins Daniel and Nathan live on a small farm with their family in the rural town of Dunt in South Australia. They live with their mother, two younger brothers, a sister, and now their mother’s new boyfriend, Steve.

Gran (Ruth Sims)

Prison Officer Ruth Sims, aka Gran, is a 65-year-old woman who lives and works in Sydney's western suburbs at Garingal Juvenile Justice Centre for Boys. Gran has been employed at Garingal for 25 years as a Prison Officer.

S.mouse

S.mouse is a US rap artist who released the biggest selling hip-hop single of all time. Although the kid-friendly song was a huge success, S.mouse craves the recognition of his edgier peers.

Blake Oakfield

Blake, 38, is a former Surfing World Champion from the New South Wales coastal town of Narmucca Bay. He has competing responsibilities – a pregnant wife with two children, and a lifelong dedication to the surf gang he founded as a young man, the Mucca Mad Boys.

Jen Okazaki

Jen is a softly spoken Japanese wife and mother of three. Her primary focus is her son Tim, who she trained and pushed into becoming a skateboarding champion.
