Season 1

I Am is a South African documentary series produced by Don't Look Down, created in honour of Woman's Month 2013 and dedicated to the strength of South African women in which each episode is themed according to issues which women all over South Africa face on a daily basis.

Transactional Relationships

A major issue/hot topic amongst females at the moment, revolves around women who are involved with older men on a "transactional basis". One of the most famous examples is Khanyi Mbau, who last year, went public with her story on how she "empowered" herself with the wealth of her lovers.

Like Khanyi Mbau, there are thousands of girls/woman who are now in similar relationships, which are in turn having positive effects on some, and negative effects on others.

Abuse

The physical abuse of women in south African culture has become common place in the local and international media over the past year.

This episode will explore abuse on various levels - psychological, emotional, financial, pathological and self inflicted - and in turn reflect on how certain women have found their freedom and strength through the abuse they have endured.

Identity (Hair, Sexuality, Weight, Clothing)

This episode explores the emotional and psychological stress that most women face in 2013 with regards to maintaining their physical state.

Do women do what they do for men's attention? Are women competing against one another? What are the risks/benefits? Are women disempowering themselves financially in order to maintain their image with clothing, hair, make-up and shoes?

Career/Successful Women

With women constantly gaining more respect in the workplace, is having a career in modern day south Africa as difficult as it was 15 or 20 years ago? Are women still finding themselves in positions where "sleeping their way to the top" is an option?

Do men still make more money than women? Are women taken seriously in the workplace? Is a woman that has a family and is a mother, not as successful as a career woman?
