Now that I've had time to reflect and think about it, I honestly think I was such a baby for crying over it. When I left home I was so excited about attending the first EVER edition of the SAFTA: Golden Horn Awards and little did I know that instead of checking out celebs, winners and gathering gossip, I'd be stuck in a parking lot, for more than 2 hours watching 4 people fiddle with my car's hand brake.
I don't take kindly to being helpless, I always expect things to go the way they should and when this doesn't happen, which is kinda often, I freak out! A reaction which has earned me the "Control Freak" label.
Though some of the people who helped me that night might not read this, I would like to say: "Thank you guys, I am deeply touched by your love and really appreciate everything you did for me."
My car problems were sorted out at 22:00 and I managed to go into the venue five minutes later, feeling all depressed. I had decided that once the show was over at 23:00, I was going home to sleep and hopefully forget about that horrible night. You guys will have to share the juice with me this time because I missed out on all the action.
Anyway, here's the little that I saw once the Nile river had stopped flowing.
I went in to join my date for the evening, Blogiwood reader,
Dee and found her sleeping! This was in the middle of Dali Mpofu's speech and I understood why anyone would dose off.
I had earlier walked the red carpet with Dee, (while waiting for the "mechanics" to arrive) but one photographer kindly asked me to step aside so that he could take a picture of Dee's gorgeous outfit. Ja, neh that evening just wasn't mine.
I had a soft evil giggle when she couldn't remember who made her outfit. Clearly Dee doesn't watch E! Channel.
I learnt my lesson about taking friends with you to events. You have to make sure you are not upstaged by their outfits so that you can avoid what happened to me:
Zola and Dingaan insisted that she be photographed with them and they kept complimenting how beautiful she was. Maybe I wouldn't have minded if it was only Dingaan, but Zola too? Talk about feeling invisible.
Anyway, I had approached Zola to find out if he was okay after being mobbed by hundreds (yes, hundreds) of fans at Lebo's funeral. They were actually chasing him down the street and he had to be assisted by the Metro Police.
Zola did indeed have a small injury on his right toe but that didn't stop him from giving a super performance to end the show.
THAT performance brought the Brown Shuga in me back and all of a sudden I had forgotten all about my horrific experience and I went on to party it up with them glam people.
wonder what Zola's hand is up to behind there...Dee's expression kinda tells us his hand wasn't still..
I spotted Lazola from TshaTsha and oh, he's such a sweetie. I love his character and he seemed like he has a lot in common with Lazola.
Soon after that Thokozani spotted me and proudly showed me that he had brought a partner this time (Thobile, SABC 1 newsreader). I had given him a disapproving message when he showed up partner less at the Channel O awards so he got the message. The one about the hair too, I notice.
Jay Jay Zwane from Scandal was there with his girlfriend, Refiloe, who also happens to be an old friend. Nice seeing her doing her thing. She was also on Generations recently, as the date Queen organized for Sbusiso. Beautiful girl.
Though I agree he has a gorgeous body, he kinda reminds me of Seal and that's not a good thing.
Chichi Letsoalo was there, hanging around with the Scandal cast. Has she joined Scandal? Wonder what happened to the "clean image" she was spotting a few months ago. Not that I'm complaining, she did look gorgeous in that dress.
Can somebody please tell me what Terry did in the movie for her to deserve a Best Supporting Actress award? If she is so good an actress then shouldn't we have noticed her great acting skills in Zone 14 too? I'm just saying.
And just because I don't think she should have received the award does not mean I ain't getting my pic. Smile sweety smile...we gotta move on.
Ja, Thokozani was popular with the ladies that night. I later caught him chatting up his Isidingo co-star, Lesego Motsepe.
She was there with her famous assets firnly secured. Good for your girl.
Joe Mafela was also there with his bushy face. I respect my elders so I will not mention that his beard reminded me of something we use to "skuur" pots.
Nthati Moshesh also insisted that we take the picture together and at least this time, I wasn't excluded.
Nkuli from City Ses'La was looking gorgeous and doesn't her smile look so genuine? We didn't talk about the fact that I can't stand to watch her show though.
Linda Sokhulu was there looking fly in her simple but elegant number. She did confirm that has left Generations (Hallelujah!!!!!) but wouldn't disclose what she's up to now.
Cleo's sweetness is definitely there...
Oh, and this is my favourite picture of the night!
I don't even know his real name but who cares. He's Mike from Isidingo and he was the happiest person that night. Do you think I held him too close? He wasn't complaining though...
Clint Brink was also there, looking like he didn't have a date. I look kinda tipsy in this picture, sober as I was.
Snitch actor, Dini Nondumo was there wearing the smile we all love. Somehow I feel like I should know who his date is but I can't make out why.
Ooh...Dini stop rubbing my back...you make me go ah ah ah!
So I had to quickly take this picture so that the City Ses' La clown could move away for my picture with "Gabriel". Remember how cool he was as Karabo's bodyguard?!
Yho Thapelo Mokoena kinda makes my knees go all jelly wobbly and he awoke the kasi girl in me coz I so wanted to trip his date when I saw them leave together. Lucky thing.
Presley needs to get in touch with Janet Jackson's personal trainer asap! I am not feeling this weight thing at all.
So they weren't kind enough to tell me my bra was popping out, hence the shuga on the picture...
I can't comment much on the awards for obvious reasons but I'm happy that Lee and Barker Haines won awards, much deserved!!
After seeing Michelle Botes, I have to eat humble pie because of what I said, the woman was looking absolutely beautiful!!!
David Kau is my Man Of The Year!!!
So guys, what happened on Saturday?? Be kind now and share with yo gal...
